Is this normal?

My DS is 16 months and seems terrified of other kids. My Friend has a son the same age and when he tries to approach my DS for a hug or anything, my DS freaks out. He stands in the corner and cries. I bring him to mommy and me and sometimes he is fine with other kids around although he NEVER socializes with them. I see all the other kids touching each other or handing each other objects and DS runs away. I am a SAHM but he has been around other kids. He seems to LOVE to be around kids 5+ its just kids his own size that he gets upset with...I don't know how to fix this. Is it normal at his age or do I need to work on this?

I remember my son being a bit scared of people at that age as well.. keep exposing him though..

I don't think it's completely abnormal, but I would continue bringing him around kids- mommy and me, pay dates, the park, library programs, etc...
