When do you give the gift to the older child?

I'm not going to give either of my children gifts, I'm sure they'll be spoiled the following days after their sibling arrives by grandparents.

I gave them big sister/brother books when they came up to the hospital and gave them a small gift when we came home (playdough set and big sister necklace)

I'm not going to give either of my children gifts, I'm sure they'll be spoiled the following days after their sibling arrives by grandparents.
This. I may have gotten him a book and big brother scrubs to wear to the hospital. He got lots of gifts from family and friends.

I got my DD (4.5 yo) a personalized "Big Sis" tote bag, some coloring books, a big sister T-shirt and a "I'm the Big Sister" teddy bear. We gave that to her when I was in the hospital with the new baby.
Before DS was born DH and I took her out for a special day, the last time we'd do something as only a family of three. I made her a special breakfast, we took her to Build-A-Bear to make a special friend, and then she got to choose whatever else she wanted to do that day and where she wanted to go out to dinner. It was a really nice day together.
All of my family ended up giving Emerson a little "Big Sis" gift when Grayden was born. It was unexpected and very sweet.
