Potty training question/ problem

DS is 2 1/2 and is completely pee trained during the day. I wasnt trying to train him... he just took it up on himself to start doing it and I went with it.
Poop has been another story all together. It appears to give him major anxiety. I got him to go twice in the potty and then I guess I scared him and he stopped the potty all together. I gave it a rest and then I started asking him if he wanted to poop in a diaper.
For months now hes been asking me for a diaper, I give it to him, he poops, flushes it, then walks around diaperless. Recently, though, hes been going every other day so his poop sometimes has blood. The dr suggested giving a stool softner, but I felt it wasnt necessary yet.
So now I have 2 problems. The past few days he says he has cocky in there, I give him a diaper and hes been peeing it. Totally regressing. I don't know if he really has to go and is constipated or if hes just feels its easier to go in the diaper? What would you do? Should I cut out the diaper all together and give him stool softners and eventually let him get it?? Or should I let him have a diaper if he wants one??

Mine held his poop, but only for two to three days. Never blood. Potty gave him anxiety too. We stuck with it, gave him prunes and baby food to eat for the constipation and at 28 months, it doesn't cause any stress.

I have heard of people who gave laxative so their kid could go often and get over it. I wasn't at that point.

Re: Potty training question/ problem

My 3.5 year old just went through this. He's been pee trained since November but not poop. He started having extremely hard poops which made him bleed. I called the ped & was told to give pears, prunes daily along with 1tbsp miralex. After 2.5 days, he softened up but I stopped giving it bc the 3rd day, it gave him diarrhea & stomach pains.

But how did you get them to go on the potty? Mine asks for a diaper and poops in it lol. I know its not a bad thing, but eventually how do I get him to go on the toilet? Should I just let him wear underwear and poop himself???

Re: Potty training question/ problem

I just put him in underwear & told him the diapers were gone bc he was now a big boy. He did poop several times in his underwear but I learned signs of his when he needed to go. I would then sit him on the potty & we sang or read books. If he still didn't go, I would tell him that he needed to tell mommy when he had to go. It just then clicked. But I would stop with the diaper bc that's causing the regression.

Potty training question/ problem

I put DS in underwear. No diapers at all anymore. I would pay attention to the signs he was ready to go (he'd be running around playing and stop dead in his tracks, get this weird look on his face, try to run and hdie, etc), around the times he'd typically go and I would run him to the toilet. I also constantly asked him to let me know if he had to go. Even on those occasions when he didn't full make it on the toilet, I tried to get as much as I could into the toilet and still gave him a lot of praise as if he went. I almost never sat him on the toilet just to "try" because I didn't want him to think it was some kind of punishment.

I've been rewarding him with stickers every time he goes and a ton of praise. Cookies too. I also give him "privacy". Shut the bathroom door halfway but enough so I could still see him.

DS is doing great with both - the problem is as the weather gets warmer, he is outside more which he LOVES. He's less likely to tell us or daycare when he has to go because he doesn't want to miss out so we've had a lot of accidents lately.
