Breastfeeding question BTDT Moms

I'm breastfeeding my daughter and its working out this time which I'm happy about! She is only a week old and just gets the boobs!! LOL When should I start to pump? Should I pump before or after I feed her? Don't need to pump at all right now? just wondering It always makes me nervous when I start to pump because when I start to see nothing coming out I get freaked out but yet when she is on the breast I know she is getting milk because she is pooping and peeing after every feed.

With my first, who I EBF until 9 months, I didn't start pumping until about 4 weeks...I felt no need to before that since I didn't need bottles of milk for her and the pediatrician recommended to me that I wait to regulate my supply. After that, I began pumping 3x a day to build a freezer stash...once I went back to work, I pumped 2x a day (morning and night) and we were fine.

When should I start to pump? When you want to skip a feeding so if you have a plan to go somewhere and not be able to feed her or you just want someone else to feed her

Should I pump before or after I feed her? pump right after morning feeding that usually when you have a lot of milk

Don't need to pump at all right now? pump if you are looking for some independence and do not want to worry about her not taking a bottle

If you don't need to pump than I would hold off for a couple more weeks but if you do than pump right after your first feeding in the AM. If you don't get anything don't panic just continue to pump each day at this time and eventually you will get something. After you have a spray you have to pump for 15 min or 5 mins after the spray is gone

She's only a week old, I'd wait until she was 3 to 4 weeks old. Your supply will regulate and you will have the hang of nursing.

Personally, enjoy these next couple of weeks and just nurse, don't stress yourself out with pumping.

At 3/4 weeks, I would pump after her first feeding when she is done eating and just put it away/store it.

I started pumping to save for a stash when she dropped her 11:30pm feeding which was about 3-3.5 months.

But in the beginning I would only pump when she skipped a feeding or slept super long. I was always scared she would wake up but u can always give a bottle. I too hate pumping and hate seeing nothing coming out or only 1-2oz ughh. I do agree with the others that it would be great to pump after the 5-6am feeding. I am sure the last thing u want to do is pump at that time but there is always so much milk in the morning!

Definitely wait a few weeks before pumping (as long as you dont need it right away) i''m not sure of this is normal, but when I started pumping to get a freezer stash before going back to work, I ended up with an oversupply issue. I started pumping right after DD's morning feeding when DD was about 3 wks, thinking my supply would be regulated and it obviously wasn't. A friend of mine also had this issue, but way worse. She started pumping in between feedings when her DS was only a week or two and she ended up with a huge over supply. She couldn't keep up with it, was constantly engorged and ended up with mastitis. Again, I'm not sure if either of these situations are normal, but if I had to do it all over, I would wait until at least 7-8 weeks to pump, if you are only doing so to freeze for work.

I started pumping as soon as my baby was born. I wanted to start on my stash for when I returned to work. It was very stressful and time consuming. I felt like a prisoner to the pump and baby. If I could go back, I would have started pumping at 4 weeks.
I start work next week and hoping to keep up my supply. I do have about 3-4 months worth of BM stashed.
One pro about pumping was that it gave me some time to just get out and do something for myself or catch a nap in between. I always kept a bottle in the fridge so my DH could help out.
