Flu shot 6 month old- Dr office or Pharmacy?

My son has an appt at the dr on Weds to get his flu shot. I know I am prob buying into the hype, but I want him to get it ASAP. Would you have your 6 month old get the shot at the pharmacy?

DD is 5 but she just got it at her peds office. They have the preservative free version. I would check with your ped first if not the pharmacy should be fine.

I do not know if the pharmacy has pediatric needles.

I would only take a 6 month old to the Dr. for a shot.

Thanks everyone...normally, I would never consider going to the pharmacist for this, but I am honestly nervous about bringing him into a sick drs office.

I called PM pediatrics (they said they should be getting some in next weekend FYI) and they said that there is no difference between getting it at the drs as opposed to the pharmacist.

We only get preservative free shot. Does the pharmacy offer that one? I would get it at the ped if it is a few day difference.

I'm stressing it too. My Ped told me that every parent is bringing their sick kid in with the flu. I cancelled our well visit for this week because of it. Also, my Ped is out of the flu shot so its not an option. I am going to bring him this week to the Pharmacy in the first hour they are open. I don't want to chance it since you really don't know who was in the room before you at the Ped office. I can't stand this stress!

The only difference is that they might not have the preservative free version. That is the question you should ask.

Honestly I would be tempted to say that the pharmacy might be worse. At the doctors you might get in a room quickly but at a pharmacy you will have people you know are sick and probably there for tamaflu or antibiotics. I know I now go to the drive thru. I know my mom says she always gets sick 2-3 days after she picks up my grandmothers meds and has to wait bc there is a problem.

You can make an apt. DH did this. He had to wait 20 mins for it still. A lot of people were waiting. We stopped at cvs yesterday after ped and it was a madhouse!

No way would I trust a pharmacy to give a shot to a baby that young. Wait for you dr appt. A few days is not going to make a difference. Its not effective for about 2 weeks after you get it anyway

Pharmacies cannot give anyone under 18 the shot. As per my sister who is a pharmacist.

Cuomo declared a state of emergency yesterday with regards to the flu and the biggest change is that pharmacies now can administer the flu 6 months-18 years.
