A reputable used car dealership?

DH and I have one car right now and it sucks big time. We will be in the market for a used car in March, after our tax return. We can't afford a car payment and have a very limited budget. We are terrified of ending up with a piece of junk... or ending up with one of the Sandy cars that's been messed up by water and sand and stuff.

Does anyone know of a decent, reputable used car dealership, that won't sell us a piece of junk just to get it off the lot, who aren't a bunch of crooks? Thank you!!

Stay away from the smaller no-name lots, and go with a regular dealership that sells used cars.

Re: A reputable used car dealership?

I leased with Wantagh Mazda (new 2010 model) and loved them.

We walked in and they didn't hound us at all. Gave us the keys to take a test drive, and said to come speak to them if we wanted to move forward.

I am contemplating buying my car in a few months when the lease is up because I have not had any problems.

While we were there finalizing the paperwork, there were a few return customers who also said they were quite pleased.

Stay away from all the Atlantic dealerships. Those people are snakes.

P.S. I also think a lot of the dealerships have to do a certified pre-owned, which covers a lot of things if something were to go wrong. I am not as educated on those specifics, but know other LIFers are.

The last 2 cars I've financed have been through Riverhead Toyota. I've been very pleased with both experiences.
