Kate Middleton's Hospital Nurse Fooled in Prank Call Commits Suicide
Tragic news in London.
After being phone pranked by two Australian DJs, Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse working at the hospital where a pregnant Kate Middleton stayed, was found dead on Friday, Dec. 7 in a suspected suicide.
An employee at the King Edward VII Hospital, Saldanha took a phone call on Wednesday in which DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian, pretending to be Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth, asked for info about the expectant Duchess of Cambridge. Fooled by the hoax, the nurse actually provided details about the 30-year-old royal, who stayed at the hospital for four days as she suffered from extreme morning sickness.
John Lofthouse, Chief Executive of King Edward VII Hospital, confirmed the death to Us Weekly "with very deep sadness," adding, "Jacintha was an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular." She is survived by a husband, two children and other family members, who have been informed of the death.
As Kate recuperates at home in Kensington Palace, she and Prince William, both 30, also issued a statement: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."
Reps for Scotland Yard confirmed to Us that Saldanha was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning at a location hear the hospital; other details surrounding her death were not yet available.
"Everyone is shocked by the loss of a much loved and valued colleague," John Lofthouse tells Us. Of the hoax, Lofthouse explained that Salanha was the "victim" in the prank; "the hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time."
On Wednesday, 2Day FM, the Australian radio station behind the hoax, issued an apology; they have yet to comment on Saldanha's death.

This is so very sad. Honestly, I personally think that some of these radio pranks are very mean spirited and hopefully this will be a wake-up call.

The Austrailian radio station has deleted both morning show hosts twitter accounts and would you believe THEY WERE STILL PLAYING THE RECORDINGS as of this morning?!?!
I hope those DJ's are fired

This is such a crazy story. I don't see why she would commit suicide over a prank call, but who knows. Maybe she was already emotionally unstable and this just put her over the edge. I don't know! Wonder if she left a note.
I think the prank those radio host pulled was awful and such a invasion of privacy. I don't care if she is the princess, she has a right to some privacy.

With all respect intended.....She had no right to release any medical information. I also wonder what was happening that she did this. She had children and a husband. I think there is more to this story then is being let out. The radio people in question are horrible people, but I honestly don't think they did anything wrong. They were playing a prank and instead of it being a joke were taken seriously. I'm sorry if this is insensitive but it just doesn't make sense if the hospital was standing behind her why she would kill herself.

Not to mention once this got out can you imagine the backlash? Clearly anybody could call and pretend to be the Queen and the Heir to the BRITISH THRONE. This isn't some pop star or actor...this was 2 people who pulled a prank and were told of confidential medical information about the FUTURE QUEEN OF ENGLAND by pretending to be the Queen and Heir of the Monarchy.

To the Brits the Royals are gold, they actually have respect/love for their leader. So this nurse was probably embarrassed and Lord only knows what happened behind the scenes regarding reprimands etc.
So sad.

suicide is always a tragedy, but to kill yourself over this...leaving your husband and two children behind is just senseless.
really, really sad. I get it...the Brits love their royalty and maybe she thought life as she knew it was 'over'. But damn. She told them that Kate was resting and that she was given fluids.
I really wish she would have just let some time pass and realize this would all blow over.

While it's very sad I dont think the radio hosts should be to blame. I can't see them honestly thinking that someone was actually going to fall for it and give out info. They probably expected to be hung up on. So technically this is only the fault of the nurse, even if she really believed she was speaking to the queen she should have kept her confidentiality orders. But to commit suicide over it? I think there was much more going on in her life. Very sad.

But we'r enot talking about a celeb or an athlete we're talking about the British Monarchy. The future Queen of England and the Heir to the British throne. It is there government. I can almost guarantee Pres. Obama gets better care in the respect that more precautions are made. It should be that way!
Also, giving any info to anybody is a huge issue. There should be precautions in place to prevent things like this from happening. How would we feel if Pres. Obama had a heart thing and someone called a hospital and convinced the nurse it was the First Lady. Would that not be a breech of security? What about if that was one of his kids? She is a part of the Government and she is carrying her husband's successor. She isn't just some Paris Hilton and it's not like it was even Pippa. It is The Dutchess of Cambridge. I think as Americans we have lost sight that some people do deserve a certain level of respect because of people like Paris, and the Kardashians.

Horrible. CNN says it was the first nurse who just transferred the call that committed suicide. I do feel there is more to the story maybe the hospital reprimanded her to the point of setting her off, who knows how she was feeling emotionally before this event.

That was my first question! She took her life because someone called her pretending to be queen of England and she believed them and told them that some princess is still is or isn't throwing up every morning?? WHO CARES!!!!
She had TWO kids, HOW could she have done this to them??
All because of such BS! Who cases about some silly newspaper who wants to print some Shyt about some silly princess!! What an tragedy for her poor family!!! Unbelievable!

I don't know if I buy that she was killed, but I don't necessarily believe that Will and Kate didn't want any consequences for the nurses. Of course they're going to say they didn't complain- as it is they are always struggling with their image.
I like to read royal boards/sites from time to time  and while the RF is very loved, there are also a lot of people who question their existences, especially since they get a lot of money from taxpayers. And a lot of people feel that Kate doesn't do nearly as much as she could/should, at least pre-pregnancy.
