When did you start giving your infant cereal?
I forgot to ask the pediatrician, but I was wondering about (when) we have to start on cereal- very wet, of course. Mom claims her friend's Dr. told them to start after 6 months.  really?

Some people say its best to begin later since they arent getting much nutrients from it and it takes space in their diet from formula which does have nutrition. Im not even sure when my ped says to start. I think some start at 4/5 mo.

6 months is the AAP recommendation. Why does that confuse you that your mom's friend's doctor would say that? With our first, we intended to start at 6 months, but our ped recommended 4 months because he had sudden slow weight gain, so we did. With our second, we started him about 6.5 months.

Exactly 4 months. My DD started amping up her bottle ounces and frequency and it was just insane, she wasn't getting full enough. So we started with cereal and stage 1 foods and she went right back down to normal bottles and went up to 5 hrs in between meals throughout the day.
By 6-7 months, she was already starting table foods............puffs, meatballs, pasta, cheese, yogurt, etc.

Our ped starts at 4 months. I didn't! well actually they told me to start at 2 months adjusted. makes me crazy that they do not adjust!!! I started at 5 months adjusted.

My ped says the general answer is to start at 6 months.
However, both of my DD's were started on cereal mixed in the bottle by 1-2 months due to reflux and cereal to eat between 4-5 months.
With my DS, due to his appetitie, my ped said we will probably start him on cereal at 4 months also, since he is already far exceeding the recommended formula intake.
6 months is the recommended guideline and there are reasons for and against starting earlier depending on your child.

The recommendation depends on if you BF or not. We were told to do 6 months. DH was really eager and the rest of the family kept pressuring me, telling me DD was hungry, etc  so I compromised and started her at 5.5 mo. She was EBF.

Dr said to start at 4 months
Her well visit was a little after she turned 4 months though- so she was like 4.5 months
