DS is 6 weeks old, and a BF'ing question!
Hi ladies! I haven't been on in a while - DS, Robert Harry was born on 10/11/12 - 3.5 weeks early, but before Sandy when he was due.
It was scary, but all is well now! He is perfect!
I didn't BF DD, but am BF'ing DS and supplementing with formula.
I'm now coming down with a sore throat/stuffy nose - do I continue to breast feed? I think the answer is yes, but is there anything I should do? Will he get sick from my milk? Can I take OTC medicines?
TIA

Congratulations on your DS!
Definitely keep BFing. He won't get your cold germs from your milk, but he will get the antibodies that your body is building up to fight the virus.
Careful around him, though - remember that it's dangerous for a baby so little to get sick. Maybe try to get one of those surgical masks so you don't breathe right on him when you hold him close? Like the kind they wear in the nail salons.
Good luck with the BFing and hope you feel better soon.
Oh, and OTC medicines are safe for BFing but Sudafed can decrease your supply so you don't want to overdo it with that. If you're really miserable, try to take it right after you BF so it's wearing off by the time you BF again hours later. Tylenol, Advil, antihistamines, etc. are all safe too.

Re: DS is 6 weeks old, and a BF'ing question!
Thanks for the congrats and all the advice! Hmm, I've been all over him without a mask, and don't have one, but am being really good at washing hands.. hope that's enough.
Almost 3 year old DD has had a stuffy nose for days, so I guess he'll be ok, but I am being super vigilant about her not touching him without sanitizer.
