anyone having a VERY tough time with their 18-24 month old, behavior wise?
DH and I are at our wits end. It's a constant battle - the screaming, tantrums, hitting, etc. My older DS never really went through the terrible 2's, 3's etc. phases, so we feel like we are at a loss. We redirect, use simple terms, like no hit, do nice and show him nice. We always praise him for doing nice, etc. I feel like we do all of the "textbook" things but they don't seem to work. Any ideas? books you can recommend, etc? I feel terrible saying this, but it's taking alot of the joy out of parenting

I think we are entering this stage at my house with my 18 month old DD. I am just trying to stay positive and let it go.
I feel for you!

My ds is a spirited child. He was a handful from 1.5-2.5. Don't get me wrong we still have some bad days at 4.5 but things are so much better. What worked for us is 1. we adjusted his diet. minimal sugar and no food or drink with dyes in it. This made a huge difference. 2. We had to be consistent. If he was bad he went in time out. No empty threats. He had to stick to his sleeping schedule. We also found out he was nor sleeping well do to nasal issues. He went on a nasal spray and allergy meds. He was able tp breath and sleep better and wake more rested. This helped too since he wasn't so tired all the time. Those little things really helped. good luck It will get better.

Me too. I made a similar post a few weeks ago. Dd is 20 mos and she's near impossible to deal with. Last Saturday, it took 40 min to put her in car seat. The tantrums, meltdowns, the not listening is draining the life out of me. It's come to the point where I don't want to take her anywhere anymore, it's so upsetting.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I feel terrible but we're at our wits end and don't know what to do with our 22 month old twins! Nothing works. They laugh at time out, scream, throw tantrums, spit. I don't know what to do anymore!

Re: anyone having a VERY tough time with their 18-24 month old, behavior wise?
Since she turned 1 she's been a beast. Literally the day she turned 1 she became impossible. She's now 21/2. We have better days now and she's calmed a bit. But we still have our bad days or times during the day.
We resorted to time outs. We start and sit her on her rug in her bedroom and she freaks. If that doesn't result in desired outcome she goes in her crib and she hates that. I know it's. It recommended but it's our last resort and it works. She's usually ready to do what we want after that. She's only in for a minute or 2.
It hard, exhausting, and heart breaking. It it's part of learning I guess
