Teacher moms: when do I look for a daycare?

I'm going back to work next Sept. DD1 will be almost 3, DD2 will be about 9 months. (I'm due 11/30).

When do I start looking into different day care sites?

Teacher moms: when do I look for a daycare?

i started looking for daycare when I was about 6 months pregnant and needed it about 6 months after that. There were people already on waiting lists for some daycares we looked at and their babies were due after ours! but we only needed part time and not all places over that.

I would suggest no later than Spring to start looking, but it doesn't hurt to look sooner!

There is always a waiting list for Sept.

I secured a spot on a waiting list before most knew I was pg and wasn't called until my kids were 11 months old, then again I needed 2 of the 6 spots in a baby room at the exact same time.

I would pick a place by January. Most centers start registration for the following year as early as Feb/March.

It's more difficult to get two spots at the same time for two kids, even of different ages, especially at smaller centers and the highest demand is Sept (all of the teachers want Sept and even some non-teachers pull their kids out for the summer to be watched by relatives etc.)

6 months to be safe, expecially trying to find one that will fit 2 ages in...... but in July I was able to find places that would take starting in Sept.

I looked in Dec-to Feb. There were only a couple of spots left in the infant room at that point for Sept.
