Another nursing question

My dd is a week old. When I started nursing in the hospital I was doing 15min. Each side. Now it seems dd is nursing on one side for each feeding. Is that bad?

Re: Another nursing question

With this DD i often just nurse on just one side per feeding 90% of the time!

Re: Another nursing question

I'd offer the other side when she finishes, but don't panic if she doesn't want it. If she's pooping regularly, she's eating enough.

Re: Another nursing question

they actually say one side should be enough, but to always offer the other side too just in case they are still a little hungry. now that your milk is in, one side may be enough for her at each feeding.

Exactly. Its actually better to nurse on oneside completely bc your LO will get the hind milk which is much more fattier and will fill up your LO more. Offer the other breast as a back-up. Good luck!

DD only took one side a lot in the beginning. Eventually, she started to take both sides at each feeding.

They have tiny tummies at that age and your supply may be much more than it was even a few days ago.

Re: Another nursing question

agree with the other ladies. one side could totally be enough, especially at that age. DD only took one side for the longest time and she gained plenty of weight. Just make sure to count the wet and dirty diapers. The hospital sent me home with a guide for the first two weeks and I checked off every time she had a wet/dirty diaper to see if she fell in the goal range.

And also keep in mind that as she gets older, she will get more efficient with feeding and nursing sessions will be shorter.

good luck, momma!
