BF Question - How long should a 4.5 month old be nursing for per session?

DS used to nurse for almost 20 minutes per session... now it is down to 10 or less! Is it because he is getting more efficient? Could he be getting enough in such a short time frame?? He always falls asleep at the breast and I never wake him up, I just transfer him to his crib. How long (on average) does a 4-6 month old nurse for?

I'm having the opposite problem with DD! Chat Icon

With my boys they were ALWAYS efficient eaters and would eat in 10 min. both sides. They were little piggys! I did however wake them up when they fell asleep nursing otherwise they're not getting what they would eat while they were awake. Not that what your doing is bad, I just think you should wake him up to eat. Chat Icon

I just stopped BF but it was taking her only 10 minutes to eat.

That should be enough, bc they are eating more efficiently.

It was your post that made me second guess myself! LOL

Ok, I'll try waking him next time to see if he's interested.

Oh ok! I'm sure he would keep going if he wanted more, right? I'm going to try to wake him next time and see if he will eat a little more.
