How many blood tests during pregnancy?
I have my first OB appt on Monday. I'm terrified of having blood taken. Any idea how often and how much they take during the pregnancy?

I had blood taken at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and then 27 weeks (glucose test).
I hateeeeeeeeeeeee having blood taken too. I always close my eyes really tight and tell the nurse please just tell me when the needle is out and im done LOL

At my RE I had it taken constantly. When I switched over to my OB they took blood twice- for the NT Scan and for the glucose test.

It felt like they did it more in the beginning but now I can't remember the last time, maybe my glucose test?
I think the PP (8, 12, 16, & 27 weeks) sounds about right!!
Just talk to the person who is taking your blood about something to distract you...like what you watched on TV last night or something!

my first 7 week visit they did not take any blood, they gave me paperwork and sent me to the lab
the lab took 14 tubes of blood BUT part of that was the jewish genetic tests so i am not certain how many normally they would take
at my 12 week nt scan they do a finger prick for bloodwork
and then at my 15 week appt they took a tube of blood
and thats all i know for now - i go back in 2 weeks for my next visit
i used to pass out from bloodwork so i can sympathize with you - but honestly its like my body knows it needs to have this done and all my bloodwork has gone very smoothly

I sure it depends on each person but I've had it several times.
I think I've had bloodwork at 8w, 12w, 16w, 29w and just now at 36 w.
ETA: I also had bw around 32/33 weeks to check my liver for some sort of pregnany related thing.

Same here. About 8 vials in the very beginning, just a finger prick as part of the NT scan at 12 weeks, a vial or maybe 2 at 16 weeks as part of the AFP, a vial as part of the glucose test, and now a vial for an HIV test at the end of the pregnancy.

It feels like I have been pricked every time I go to the doctor...but in actuality it has been 3 (all for the NT) and I have the glucose in 2 weeks.
I think when you have a baby you can't be worried anymore and you just have to do it. What are you going to do in the hospital when you want an epi

How many blood tests during pregnancy?
So far (at 26 weeks and 4 days) I had several vials of blood taken at a lab after my first appointment. Then I had blood taken for the glucose test and two other things (including testing for antibodies since I'm RH-) last week. If no problems come up between now and labor/delivery, I don't believe there are any other blood tests needed for me.

ETA: i had the pinky prick at the NT Scan, then 2 vials for the AFP, but since i never had prenatal b/w done since i was still with Dr B for so long... they took an additional 8 or so at the same time as the AFP. So far thats it.

I was terrified too, but you somehow get over it when you know it's something good you're doing for your LO.
I had the first big one done where they took 6-8 viles. And then back again because they forgot to test me for something the first time. And then the test for GD which I passed the first time. So blood was taken 3 times from me but only 2 were really necessary.

I have passed out while having blood drawn in the past. Since I have been pregnant, I've gotten a lot better. I probably had blood drawn about 10 times in 38 weeks. I don't know why so many, but it was all the time. I always go to Good Sam for my blood draws, I feel like they do it so quickly and always find a vein when no one else can.

I had to have it drawn twice in the very beginning two days apart to confirm my hormone levels were rising and that I was actually pregnant. Then after that I had to have about 11 vials or so drawn because they need to check for so many things. But I've heard it depends on where you go, that some places need a separate vial for each test and some places can just do it with one vial. Around 12 weeks they need to do a test that requires just a finger prick. Then when you go for your Gestational Diabetes test later in your pregnacy that's another blood test. But as long as you pass that test, you should be done for the rest of your pregnancy. That's what I was told anyway. I'm assuming they will also probably check in when you're at the hospital in labor.

This thread totally is making me panic. I despise needles. I'm so freaking scared of them. Last time I went, they took the first panel of blood - 8 tubes. Not terrible except the nurse missed my vein, moved the needle around to try and get it right, then had to stick me in the other arm. Needless to say, I've been bruised for a week and look like I've been doing drugs or beaten by DH. I go back next week for the azhkanazi panel - sad, sad times. I'm sweating just thinking about it.

I think I've had blood drawn about 6-7 times so far and I'm just under 17 weeks... I don't think that is the norm though...

I had blood drawn in my OB's office at 8 weeks. Then at the lab for blood work around 9 weeks. I had more blood drawn at my 16 week check up as part of the down syndrome testing. I'm guessing my next one will be the GD test.
