Maternity leave ended and...
I was laid off upon return. Not a shock since there was a merger when I left and my side of the company has about 20% of the staff left. I worked there for 11.5 years and the last 5 remotely. I have never not worked. I have a 21 month old and 3 month old and feel so lost. Today is my first day with no work. DD started pre school today, younger DD is with the nanny and I have a million things to do but am just sitting here staring into space.
I was given a very generous severance and do have the option not to work out of the home if I please, however I just have no clue what I want and what I am doing. DH just wants me to be happy, I have no clue what that means for me.
Thanks for listening. I am totally fine just feeling a little lost this morning.

I am so sorry I am sure you are confused right now because of the shock of it all. Once it sinks in I am sure what you want to do will come to you!
Hang in there

Oh no! I'm so sorry you got laid-off.
It can both a blessing and a curse. I can sympathize with feeling lost. I have never NOT worked either and it's really a big part of you and how you define youself. Maybe take some time to just let it all settle in and then really figure out what you want to do - whether it be go back out there and find something else in the same field or change directions or stay home. Because you didn't plan for it, you're a little bit taken aback and your feelings are understandable. Don't let it get you down though but see it as a chance for something new...a new chapter in your life.

I agree, once it sinks in you will be able to make the right decision...maybe go for a walk or talk to a friend about it. Best of luck!

I'm so sorry you are going through this.. Take this time to really think about what you'd like to do next. I'm a firm believer in things happening for a reason, something bigger and better is around the corner..

I'm so sorry
Hopefully you will figure out what you want to do, and maybe get a little 'vacation' time too.

Re: Maternity leave ended and...
That stinks - I was laid off in May after almost 15 years at the same company. it is a huge adjustment. Take some time to figure things out since you have your severance and don't forget to get your unemployment to.

Re: Maternity leave ended and...
It's really weird not working. I've worked part time since I was 16 and full time since I was 22, so having to decide for myself how to fill my days was weird!
I would not make any decisions right away, but I would suggest that if you are even considering staying home and not working to keep your youngest home with you for a day here and there so you can see if that's really what you want to do all the time. Good luck
