Guest at Destination Wedding - gift?

My first cousin is now getting married in St. Thomas (UVI) and he's like a brother to me.

Hubby and I are making a mini-vacation out of it, and staying for about 6 days.

Flight, about $350 pp
Hotel, about $800 pp

Wedding itself is going to be SUPER casual - simple ceremony, cocktail hour w/drinks, passed and cake, then we're heading to either a restaurant or night-club.

How much would you give as a gift?

i always have tinkered with the idea of a destination wedding... and i would never expect a gift if my guests spent all that money to be there. so anything you give is fabulous to me!

Re: Guest at Destination Wedding - gift?

we just had a DW in Rhode Island. It cost us more than $600.00 between hotel, gas, ferrys etc. so we gave the couple a $200.00 gift. It it were a wedding on LI, we would have given them $300-$350.00

Guest at Destination Wedding - gift?

We just had a destination wedding in vegas. we specifically said no gifts, or they couldn't come. they paid for their airfare and hotel. Just having them being there was the best gift.

Agree. IMO most people don't expect a gift if you attend their destination wedding.

We had a destination wedding and didn't expect gifts but everyone gave us just what they would have had it been a local affair. Some even gave us gifts for the LI reception too!

Really? I had no idea. I have one in VA beach in a few months and wasn't invited with a date but I planned to give the same amount she gave me when she came to my wedding with her fiance. Wow, maybe I'll save a few dollars and give less.

At the dw wedding we went to, we gave what they gave us on our wedding..probably 250-300
We spent a lot to get there but, we didn't feel right giving them less than they gave us
