How to use a camera?
I got a new camera. I've been told its a good camera but I can't take action shots with it.
Is anyone willing to help me this weekend/early this week? I'm going on vaca next weekend.
I'm in Patchogue.
TIA

Re: How to use a camera?
I can't personally offer any help, but didn't it come with an instruction manual?

Re: How to use a camera?
What is the problem with your action shots? Are they blurry or are you missing the action? If you're missing the action it may be that the shutter lag on a Point and Shoot is too slow and the action has passed by the time you capture the shot. If it's a DSLR you should be able to capture the shot but you need to have a fast shutter speed (by choosing it in one of the modes that allow for that) or bright light to force a faster shutter speed.
Unfortunately it's not a single answer as several things play into getting the results you want.
A few things that could help: The brighter the surrounding area the faster the shutter speed will be which will freeze action. Think bright sunlight, not overhead kitchen light.
Does your camera have some preset options? Look for a picture that represents motion, like a running person, on the dial with the P for program mode. That will adjust settings to capture motion shots but it still won't help a lot if it's not bright enough in the room or outside.
The best exercise I went through when I first started working seriously to learn my camera was to read one section the go try the various settings and test the results. It takes time but it's worth it.

Another option if you're just missing the shot would be to try the high-speed burst mode and start shooting just before the action. You'll get multiple images in fast succession and one might be the image you're hoping to capture.
