What happens if for your digi camera you lock your memory card as opposed to not locking it...

What happens if for your digi camera you lock your memory card as opposed to not locking it...
I never noticed this before, I think it may have to do with deleting pics, but I am not sure.. TIA

If you lock it, you can't delete pics -- however you also can't write to it which means you can't take pics.
