People who have pets and infants/toddlers
What are you using as a flea preventative? My DS loves the dog and he's always trying to play with him and pet him. I'm concerned about using topicals around DS, but I also don't want a flea infestation either
My dog is currently on comfortis, it's a pill that kills fleas, but it's not really working. I've found an errant flea or two on him so I need something else.
Thanks!

Re: People who have pets and infants/toddlers
I have always used Frontline, never switched after DD was born. I put it on at night, after DD is in bed, so it's basically dry in the morning and I would just keep the dog away from her for a day. As she got older, she was able to understand to not touch the dogs back for a while.

I use Frontline at night too. It's dry by morning.

We cant use the topical cause it makes the dog insane...he paces for days. SO we use a tablet. It is fleas, ticks and heartworm in one.

Re: People who have pets and infants/toddlers
I am a worrier with this stuff (chemicals, etc). But I have used Frontline while I was pregnant and continuously (DD is now 3.5). My vet reassured me Frontline has a great safety profile. Even pregnant and nursing dogs can use it, kwim? So I have always used it, b/c a flea infestation is a bad bad thing. My parents had one years ago before these topicals existed and it was a nightmare for over a year.
And I have found fleas on my dog a few times over the course of his life (7 years old now) and I have NEVER had an infestation thanks to using Frontline. I use it year round too, I am super paranoid about fleas and ticks. I don't allow my DD to touch the dog until it's dry, but I had even called Frontline makers when I was pg and they reassured me even if someone or my pet even ingested some, it would not be harmful generally speaking. So I figured the risk of the meds is much less than the risk of having a flea infestation. You can get diseases from fleas and your pets could get very sick. So could your child, kwim? So I feel I have no choice but to use it.

This. When she was small, I just kept them seperated until it was dry. Now that she is older she knows the doggies have medicine on their back and NOT to touch until I tell her she can.

I think I am going to just get the frontline, I hate chemicals/pesticides, but having an infested house is no better. I used to use the topicals before I had DS and they work so much better than the pill.
Thanks everyone!!
