I am absolutely convinced, based on several clues, that "people you may know" are people who clicked to see your profile / searched for you on FB.
I dont believe that bc I always get my best friends boyfriends father as people I may know and I know for a fact he never even logs onto FB and hasn't for months.
I am not saying those are the ONLY people on "people you might know" list. Of course a lot of them are just being pulled from out email database. But when an ex from 18 years ago whose email I never had because I barely used email back then, pops up in my "people you might know" colomn a week after I ran into him at a party I KNOW it ain't no coincident! KWIM?

I agree.
I also think that holds true for which of your friends shows up in the "friends" box at the top of the page because I've noticed the ones shown are people I've recently interacted with.

That's what I'm wondering.  This person's email isn't in my contacts on my laptop, wireless devices or desktop...BUT their address is sometimes in forwards I receive. Maybe FB is pulling it from Outlook?
In order to sign up for fb you have to give an email address. FB is accessing the contact list for that email address and cross searching it with people in their database and if you're not currently friends with them, they're suggesting them as possible friends.

I get TOTALLY random people. No connection at all. Hubby doesn't use facebook. It seems to try to link me to my friends friends sometimes, but I go check out that list every now and then and get total strangers. I assume its through my email since I use a 'junk' email for Facebook.
I don't list my work
I don't list much of anything.
Just looked and I show, where I'm from Which is a lie since I wasn't born here, My school class and that's it.
For me, less is more
