would you avoid above-ground pool ladders at 6-8 months pregnant?
We just opened our above-ground pool, and now DH says he doesn't think I should go in it when he's not around because he's afraid I'll fall since the ladder is kind of shaky. Obviously I wouldn't want to do anything that could harm the baby, but it's just a matter of going up about 4 feet and holding on and being careful. I told him if it really bothers him, he can buy a sturdier more expensive ladder or build a small deck to connect to the pool, but I was looking forward to swimming this summer because I've heard it's a great pregnancy exercise. Is DH just being overprotective, or is there a real risk I could fall?

i wouldnt want to accidentally fall and if no one is around then that would not be good. Better safe than hurt. IMO

I agree and I would only go in when someone is with you. It is great excercise and makes you light as a feather! I went on a step stool the other night looking for corn in the back of the cabinet, and you would have thought I was dangling from a balcony they way DH reacted.

Lmao last night I stood on a chair (God forbid!!!) to get some books in a cabinet and DH ran over and literally picked me up and put me down on the floor like a naughty two year old in a pantry hahahahah!!!
To the OP - I'd probably "risk" it but maybe I'm not careful enough?? It doesn't seem that unsafe and to let the summer go by without using your pool seems such a shame.

I would 'risk' it as well, so long as I was feeling steady and stable.

I would go in without a doubt even with the ladder. I would go in alone too.

I would not avoid it.
You just have to take it slow, hold on and be careful. Yes it is a risk, but nowadays everything we do is taking a risk. You can just as easily get off balance walking down the street and trip and fall on the cement worse than slipping into the pool from the ladder.
If there is a safer option, then let him change the ladder or add something to the pool to make it safer. That way he'll feel more secure and you still get to swim. I would not want to give up pool time either.

I wouldn't think twice about it.....you can fall walking on a flat surface! Maybe you can climb in and out over the side if he is worried. I kid, I kid. Just be careful like you would doing anything.

Based on my commute into the city this morning on the subway, this sounds safer. ENJOY!!!

I might with a sturdy ladder. I'm very paranoid of falling or something when DH isn't around though.

I wouldn't even think twice about it. Unless there's something else going on with your pregnancy, I'd think it was totally fine.

ladder or not, I would never go into a pool alone. (I know it's above ground, so you can stand the entire way, but that doesn't change my thinking.) My entire family swam from an early age competitively, we were also lifeguards for a long time. We have seen too many adult drownings, in the weirdest of situations you wouldn't think possible.
Last PG we didn't have central A/C and I was due 8/30. I always waited for DH to be home so I could go in the pool.
