I'm so glad you made it! DH had to work late at the last minute, so I couldn't go... but all the women I've met through ICAN are fantastic.

Oh I wish I had known about this! I just had a successful VBAC and a great experience. If anyone has any questions, feel free to FM! The difference in recovery is unbelievable!

I'm trying for a VBAC - where was the meeting? I'm scared and would love more support.

361 Broadway in Bethpage, usually the second Monday of each month at 7:30. Babies are welcome.

That's awful! Where do you live? ICAN is an international organization; there may be chapters near you that can help.

I live on Cape Cod, MA. There are only small 90-120 bed hospitals here.

Re: if anyone is considering a vbac...
Thanks - I'm not out of the closet about the pregnancy yet, I feel like that would be dead giveaway on Facebook. Bethpage is kind of far for me, any chance they have a meeting in Queens?
For those who are trying for a VBAC - are you using an ob? I was afraid to use an ob and decided on a midwife because I want to do everything in my power to put the odds in my favor of not having a repeat c-section. The hospital statistics of vbac rates also freaks me out - but I think the stats I'm looking at haven't been updated in several years. (In case you can't tell - I'm obsessed with getting a vbac, I felt really devastated by the first c-section).

ICAN of LI doesn't have meetings in Queens (technically they have their own chapter, but I don't know if they meet at all). I think the Brooklyn chapter is active, if that's closer to you.
I "Liked" ICAN on FB long before I was pg with #2. I don't know that it's a giveaway; most people have no idea what it is. But if you're still uncomfortable, you can just msg the woman that runs it and she'll send you private updates. Smart mama to gather info NOW rather than wait.
I'm a little VBAC-obssesed too. I'm using a midwife group b/c, like you, the overall statistics for MWs are much better. I'm actually driving 30+ minutes to get to a group because they have an 88% success rate. (They're on eastern LI, so that probably won't be an option for you). There are a handful of truly VBAC-supportive OBs, but IMO they're few and far between. Lots of them will say they'll do it and then back out at the last minute. (This actually just happened to another mom I know).
Good luck!

I'm using a midwife through an OB office - which already has me a little worried. I want to stay as far away from the medical model as possible! I would prefer to use Gaia midwifery but feel concerned about using Nassau University Hospital - just in case I do end up with a repeat, which I accept could be the outcome. I had a slow leak of aminiotic fluid with my first and never went into labor - so I'm hoping and praying that I go into labor this time around!!!!!!!!
Good luck to you too!
