NPR: CAMCORDERS

Does anyone know anything about camcorders? My DH and I want to buy one before gets here but I have no clue what Im looking for. I know we want a handheld, HD camcorder. But beyond that Im lost. Were trying to stay under $250. And will use it for basic everyday use like recording and family stuff.

If you already have one and can recommend it let me know!

I have a Sony Handycam. It was cheap enough and I've been happy with it.

I'm just going to get a digital point and shoot that takes video. They are about the same price, so personally, I don't see the need for 2 gadgets.

I would just advise looking for something that shoots in full HD 1080p or is it 1080i?

we just bought one last week at best buy. we didnt want to spend a lot of money either. the sales associate said that sony and cannon were two of the best brands. we did not get an hd because we got more for our money if we went with a regular camcorder. we got a sony, it was normally $250 but we got the bundle for $300 which came with a memory card, extra battery and a case. the bundle was well worth the $. it has a 16gb memory which is about 4 hours i think, other cameras had higher gb but we are going to end up using memory cards mostly anyway . it takes pictures as well. eventually we will get a tripod. i think this is the one we got

DH is an electronics guy, and he says for camcorders sony is the best. but for regulars cameras (that also do video) canon is the best. We were looking at sony camcorders and they have a lot in your price range. I think there is a sony store in the riverhead outlets if you ever go there.
