How did you decide on team green?

We were not team green with our first, I HAD to know.

This time around, I think I might want to be team green.

What made you make the decision to be team green? OR to find out the sex?

Re: How did you decide on team green?

I was slightly tempted to find out, but DH was adamant about not finding out. We both just felt that not knowing the gender is one of the only true surprises in life. Also, after everything we went through with TTC and IVF, it is nice to have something be a surprise. My sister was team green for both of her kids, but DH's sister found out the gender for both, and told us the names beforehand. In all honesty, it was so much more exciting waiting for my sister's children to be born, because we were all so excited to find out if it was a boy or a girl. In my SIL's case, it was still exciting, but it was like, "Okay, *baby's name* is coming." It will be so exciting for DH to announce, "It's a girl!" or "It's a boy!"

I'm not Team Green but i can definitely see the appeal. It's fun to have that big surprise on the day LO is born.

That said, I don't think I could ever do it. Although i'm a very patient person, I like to be able to plan ahead. I want to know if I should be buying more blue or pink, and whether i'll need to plan a bris after LO is born.

If you're considering Team Green, i think you should give it a shot ... if you change your mind, you can always ask the doctors later Chat Icon

Re: How did you decide on team green?

I was too excited with my first not to find out. I wanted to be team green but I caved at the second level II.

This time I really wanted to be surprised. I wanted to hear just once, It's A ... This time I also really had nothing to plan. All the baby gear I have is gender neutral and the kids would share a room so no nursery to decorate really. And to be honest I would be so happy if it was a boy or girl, I really don't have a preference this time.

The wait was unbelievably exciting! In no way did I want to know before he was born. Hearing the dr say "hello handsome!" was incredible.
There is nothing you *need* to plan for. As you know as a BTDT mom.
Plus, going throughout the pregnancy hearing everyone's opinions and whatnot was sooo much fun! I will def be team green for all future pregnancies!

Re: How did you decide on team green?

Not team green, but I get wanting to be surprised. That said, we decided to find out for a few reasons:

1) There are so many surprises in a birth that I wanted to know one thing. If I didn't find out beforehand with DD, I wouldn't have known that I had a daughter until hours after she was born (I had a emergency/crash c-section under general).

2) We're Jewish, so if we have a boy we'd have a bris when the baby is 8 days old. The thought of having to plan that from the hospital w a 2 year-old at home makes me dizzy.

3) I really feel like it helped DH bond with the baby while I was pregnant last time.

4) I'm a planner when I can be. I want to paint and set up the nursery, buy clothes (if we have a boy) and be as ready as I can be before they arrive.

That said, I'd be tempted to go Chat Icon for #3 if we have a boy this time.

Crashing .. but I agree with all of this.. Sorry OP, I know you were looking for reasons to stay team green! Chat Icon but these were all reasons that I found out with my first pregnancy and will find out with my next. We're doing surrogacy so I feel like knowing the gender is especially helpful to bond.

The day we found out the gender with my first pregnancy (although one of the top 5 WORST days of my life, ultimately.. ) was also SO exciting! Before all the bad stuff went down and we were just told the gender, it was a very magical moment. Whether that happens at birth or during a sono, it's still a great surprising moment! Chat Icon

ditto to this!! That's my reason for being team green, in my experience I have been super excited for all my nieces & nephews to be born when I didn't know the gender before hand (of course I'm still excited when my sister and SIL's have found out the sex, but it just doesn't have the same build up). I am kind of jealous that DH gets to share the news though! LOL I wish I could see everyone's reaction myself, but I guess I'll probably be too drugged up to care at that point! Chat Icon

I always chime in on these "Team Green" threads! I am a three-time Team Green-er and would not have it any other way!

I know, I know, it's a surprise whenever you find out but I don't care what anyone says, it's a better surprise on the birthday and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Chat Icon Chat Icon I loved people guessing all 40 weeks! Personally I think, like others have said, when someone else is Team Green, the actual day of the birth is so much more exciting because really, does anyone really care how long the baby is? Chat Icon

Anyway, I am not a "planner," and even if I were...trust me I was set UP with TONS of pink and blue when the time came. My DC had hardly any yellow and green gender-neutral stuff. People go nuts when the baby is born!

You've done the finding out thing before...do something different! Stay strong, sister!

Re: How did you decide on team green?

We found out the first time but were team green the second time around. I regretted finding out with the first (DH REALLY wanted to know).

All of our baby gear was gender neutral and I had some gender neutral clothing and bought a few new ones. I am not one to plan/design a nursery so it really didn't matter to me what the sex was.

I also had a C-section the first time and really wanted a VBAC for my 2nd DC. I thought finding out at the end would make it all worth it and it was! I say do it!!! Chat Icon

See...I won't argue that its prob more exciting for others to hear the day of the birth what the gender is..I get that...but I think everyone is excited in general to know the baby is on its way...they are excited to know all went OK, that the baby is healthy, the height/weight/what the baby looks like, the name etc...

I know that our families and our friends were all very much excited when I went into labor-even though they knew we were having a little boy, it was still the birth of our child..they all cried, rushed to see him when he was born etc...

I prob sound defensive and I honestly don't mean for it to come across that way, but I just think that its special either way. I have always wanted to be team green for one baby, i really do want to experience finding out in the delivery room-I bet it's an awesome experience!

Re: How did you decide on team green?

For us it was a lot of what others have already said. TTC, fertility issues and a previous loss took a lot of the "magic" or surprise out of getting pregnant, so this was something we could enjoy being surprised by. Most of our friends lately have not found out too and waiting for that phone call just feels more exciting than "So and so is here!" for those who already knew the gender (and name for the most part). Also my husband is really excited to get to walk out to the waiting room and announce to our families.

Personally for me - this is a totally stupid and selfish reason too - I don't care for pink. I know when you have a baby girl, pink is inevitable, but by not knowing in advance, at least I get to put off the pink explosion should I have a girl!

Edited to say that I am totally a planner though and completely get why people find out - for me, I just focus on planning for a baby and really only miss getting to do the clothes shopping!

i can try to convince uChat Icon Chat Icon

after 2 and a half yrs trying to get pregnant ans losing multiple pregnancies and after ivf god willing 11 weeks in this si the one we get to take home babies

we will not be team green and i think it is great if u do great if u don't

as for the "better surprise" well people have already asked why find out,it is the best surprise,u will regret it etc etc

and i say having ivf work, seeing and hearing the heartbeats that was the greatest surprise

until one week later where that one heartbeat was two

greatest surprises of our lives.....nothing will top that

gender does not matter..we have babies..happy healthy babies growing and that for us was the greatest surprise ever

i never thought twice about it. i knew from the moment i was TTC that i would be team green. DH at one point said he wanted to know but once we finally got pregnant he was totally on board for team green.

that being said, we never got our magical moment when she was born because my birth was a complete disaster train wreck. the moment when i woke up from general anesthesia and was told the sex i have very little to no true memory of. i do remember waking up later on and being 1000% sure it was a girl though. all that being said, i will absolutely 10000% be team green again. i absolutely loved it and was never once tempted to find out. i am not a planner and i love great surprises so it was natural for me not to find out. i still want my "its a girl/boy" moment!!!!

I was going to say something similar. I am a HUGE planner, but I am having a great time just planning for a baby. We have an adorable gender-neutral nursery (in progress), and since I'm Jewish, I won't really do a lot in advance anyhow. I would have done gender-neutral anyhow because I will use the same room as the nursery for my next child as well. As far as the bris goes, I have an idea of what I have to do if it is a boy, and we still wouldn't know the day until the baby arrives, so there's just so much planning you can do.

It has been a lot of fun having people guess what I'm having. I've changed my mind so many times. Now I really can't wait to find out, and it's going to be great motivation for pushing!

Re: How did you decide on team green?

I have had the chance to find out the sex, but didn't (for my own reason). But we will be finding out the sex. I think I have the willpower to wait, but DH thinks I don't.

I'm a planner (and a bit of a control freak) and he sees that and assumes I NEED to know what the sex is to be prepared.

I (again) can find out the sex tonight (@ OB appt) or at my level 2 on 6/6. But I almost feel like 60% of me doesn't want to find out.

With the reality that this may very well be my last baby, I kinsd of want that element of surprise. I LOVE surprises more than I want to be in control, KWIM?

Also, I'm almost 1/2 way there and have managed to not feel the overwhelming NEED to know.

Re: How did you decide on team green?

I never wanted to or thought I could be team green until my best friend had her baby last year and she was team green and during her whole pregnancy I was dying to know and it annoyed me that she wasn't finding out... BUT- the day she went into labor it just made it SO much more exciting!!! I mean, obvi we were so excited to meet the baby but then to have that moment where we find out if it's a boy or a girl... there were no words, it was awesome!

So that is what made me decide to go Team Green. DH wasn't 100% on board at first but now he is glad that we don't know.

Yeah, he shocked me one day by saying he didn't want to find out and went into this whole explanation on how he doesn't get to have any decisions over the baby until it's born and he really wants it to be a surprise...yadda, yadda, yadda.

So, I agreed to go along w/it and be team green. I thought it was going to drive me CRAZY since I am a planner and need to have my hands in/on everything!!!! Well, I seriously surprised myself and now at almost 32 wks DH is begging for us to find out at our last sono. I told him he is "high" if he thinks I waited this long and I wont wait another few weeks.
