Really Upset- Glucose Related
I just got called from the Doctor's office and she said "oh it's nothing bad but give me a call back"... but then she proceeds to tell me that my 1 hour glucose test was elevated... I had a 155 and she said it shouldn't be higher than 135. I now have to come in for the 3 hour test. I am really upset about having to take this and scared I have GD. Did any of you have similar numbers and did it turn out OK or what?

Re: Really Upset- Glucose Related
I failed the 1 hour both times for my 2 ..but passed the 3 hour for both as well. The 3 hour is a PITA, but it was more annoying to find out that I "failed" the 2nd 1 hour by a few points and different labs use different upper limits!

My dr. said it's so common for women to fail the one hour so he actually sends them for a two hour instead. I think you'll be fine with the three hour, your number isn't that far off.

Re: Really Upset- Glucose Related
I am so confused. I am young, diabetes does not run in my family, I had a normal bmi before pregnancy and I have only gained 15 pounds in the first 26 weeks. I eat healthy, except probably indulge in too much fruit. But besides that, I am just flabbergasted!

You cannot control the way your body responds to a pregnancy. I passed the 1hr with my first, and failed it with my next two - but both times I passed the 3 hour. It sucks but it's not the end of the world and has nothing to do with weight gain.

Just found out I failed my 3 hour.. I can totally relate. I am going to a nutritionist Monday--i've only gained 11 pounds and have been doing really well... yet here I am. I hear its not too bad and I'm hoping once i talk to the nutritionist I feel better--I hope you pass the 3 hour!! Good Luck!

It has nothing to do with your weight or family history or anything. It completely has everything to do with your body and how it handles being pregnant. There is nothing you can do to prevent having it, and knowing is the best thing you can do both for yourself and the baby.
That said, a 155 isn't that high and it's likely you'll pass the 3 hour. Plus I think I remember you said you were eating before your test that day, so that could've skewed the results -- you never know. This time it'll be a fasting, controlled test, and they'll be certain with the results.
Don't worry about it -- it's worthless to worry. Don't fret about it. Extra monitoring, no matter what the reason, is a GOOD thing during pregnancy. You'll get through the test, and then you'll know for sure what's going on and you'll handle it from there.

It's true. Something like 20% of all women fail it, which is why some doc's don't even bother. When I was pg with DD, I faied the 1-hour (by two flippin points ) and passed the 3-hour.

I got a 154 on the 1 hour with both pregnancies. I passed the 3 hour with DS. With this pregnancy, I was within the normal limits for 3 out of the 4 blood draws. I failed the 2 hour draw by 8 points and was diagnosed with glucose intolerance. It's treated the same way as GD. It sucks, but it gets easier over time.

That's not exactly true. A family history of diabetes, age and being overweight prior to pregnancy all increase the likelihood of developing GD. Even if you don't have any of those risk factors, you can still develop GD.
I'm obviously older this time around, but I actually started out this pregnancy at least 25 lbs lighter and in a much healthier place. I've also been eating healthier this time around and not craving carbs the way I did with DS. Whatever happens with your 3 hour test, there's nothing you could have done to cause this.
