Concern? If you plan on breastfeeding and are having a c-section...
Knowing that you will be in extra recovery and literally can't move as much as you would like your newborn will already be drinking formula right?, will this bother you or do you think it's not a big deal, that you'll pump or switch your newborn right to breast milk when you can?
Having a natural birth and having the baby go straight into your arms for feeding is something I will miss

your newborn does NOT need formula. newborns stomachs are the size of a small marble. that's nothing. they DO NOT NEED formula immediately. and i had a csection and bf'ed my daughter within hours of her being born. have the hospital hold off on giving your DC anything until you're ready to feed them. and if your DC is having a hard time latching, they STILL don't need formula yet- do not let the staff make you feel like they are starving. they're not.

I BF my Dd within hours after my CS , they did give her formula without asking me, but she latched on and ate just fine asa they brought her to me. never had any issues.

Crashing here but wanted to share i had my DS in December and I had a CSection and I was nursing DS while in recovery, the nurse was there coaching me on breastfeeding, I am sure it depends on how you are feeling, but wanted to let you know it is possible

ITA, I had the same experience. DS was born at 10:17am and I fed him at 2:00pm, there were no problems.

I bf dd 20 minutes after she was born via csection. There is no reason to give formula.

I was under general anesthesia and didn't see DD until I woke up which was six hours later! The hospital respected my wishes and did not give her formula. They waited until I woke up to try nursing.
That said I was in such bad shape that I caved and asked them to give her formula. I attempted BF when I could and supplemented with formula for two weeks. I am happy to say that after two weeks, I EBF! So don't believe what you hear about nipple confusion!

I had a c-section in Nov and DS was nursed 1hr late rin recovery. It was delayed because I had some complications they addressed. NB babies do not even need food the 1st day or 2. They have a desire to suckle and to do the act but no actual need to eat until day 2. They are designed this way so that colostrum is enough until the mom's milk comes in. You can 100% nurse your baby in recovery and you do not need formula, but there is no harm in giving some if they need it for other reasons. My ds's blood sugar dropped and the threatned to take him to the NICU so after nursing 2hrs straight  we gave him about 20ml of formula and he was good to go.

Same here. In my case I had to supplement with formula after a few days because my baby was almost 11lbs and had dangerously low glucose levels due to not getting enough from me. In most cases however you should be able to BF right away and will not need to supplement.

with my ds I had a c-section and I breastfed a couple hrs after the surgery (they did not give him formula) They knew I wanted to breastfeed. (I could not breastfeed while in recovery since I was super sick from the anestesia but if that didn't happen he was suppose to be in the recovery with me and my hubby.)

I would have a plan in place and let the nurse know that you'd like to BF if you're able to in recovery.
I wasn't allowed to see DD after my c/s because of complications I had with the anestethics.
DD never latched anyway and my milk took days to come in, so eventually I pumped for her.
Just remember, things may not always go as planned, be ready for anything

I've had 2 c/s and both my DC were/are EBF. The hospital did not give either DC formula. My milk also came in (both times) at the same time as it would have if I'd had a vaginal delivery.

I nursed in recovery. I have 3 kids. 2 were c/s and both those c/s babies were exclusively BF and not one drop of formula. It can be done!

I was able to nurse within 20 minutes of delivery. I was ready for both of my kids in recovery while they were being checked out - so I waited for them. There is NO reason you need to give them formula if you don't want to. Just make sure to have your wishes known to the nurses. My DH had to bring my children to me in recovery.

I nursed in recovery, DS did not get formula until I gave the ok the next night and I was put out during my surgery. So it is possible to BF right away. He was ultimately totally FF but by my choice only after I gave him the colostrum the first few minutes and days.

I tried to BF in the recovery room, but when I started to sit up, I felt nauseous. I was able to BF him later that evening. There's no reason why you can't EBF with a c-section.
