Advice Needed Please

Hi ladies,

I am posting here becaus you are so knowledgeable and welcoming, and understanding. I want to thank you in advance for any insight you may be able to give me. In a nutshell, I was on risperidone for over 10 years, which affected my prolactin. I only got my period because I was on bc that whole time. This past June, I weaned off my risperidone (amazing!) and off bc in September. I got my period and started having 29-32 day cycles. Very regular, for me. I chose to get the cbefm and start that before we even started ttc because of my past. I wanted to see if I was ovulating. I did the cbefm for 2 cycles, and got only high each cycle. The cbe people sent me a card and we did a download of my info off my monitor. They called me today with the results, and they said that on day 16-17 I had an LH surge, but not high enough to read as peak on the monitor. They suggested I share that info with my ob, which I did. She called me back and said not to worry, that I had a surge. It doesn't matter if their monitor doesn't read it as "peak". My question is, in your experience, is it possible to ovulate with such a low LH surge? What does this mean for me? My doctor wasn't very helpful. I feel most ob/gyns are really almost lax about these things until there is a "problem" in their eyes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Chat Icon

have you tried temping? i found that temping was the only way to confirm that you O'd. I dont know how prolactin levels affects your cycle but i definitely think you should see a RE. If you feel that your ob is not helpful.

Re: Advice Needed Please

OBs are lax about it... theyd rather deal with a pregnant person than someone trying to get pregnant it seems... i agree with ellie about charting... get a basal thermometer from amazon... if youre getting your period regularly id say thats a good sign though.

I think it matters what your levels were. I'd ask for progesterone bloodwork around CD 21 to see if you Oed.

I've had trouble getting accurate reads on the CBEFE and OPKs--similar situation with high reading but no peak--yet I still ovulate according to cycle monitoring.

I also found my GYN to be completely out to lunch and didn't start getting thorough answers until my second RE.

Re: Advice Needed Please

Thanks so much everyone! I was trying to avoid temping-It's hard enough for me to remember to POAS at the same time every day! Now twice a day, because I am doing the cbefm with FMU and the FR Unmistakables at night too. I will consider temping next cycle. I really wish my ob would just offer to do the bloodwork for me. My insurance doesn't cover any infertility stuff, so I was hoping to avoid going OOP so early. But I will do what I have to. It's good to know other people have low surges and still O. It makes me feel a lot better. Thank you thank you! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Why won't your OB take your blood after you get the surge?

Great question! I don't effing know! It seems that because we haven't had any "problems" (which seems to me like they means LOSSES which is just negligent and awful imho but again I am reading into that), she doesn't have any reason to think anything is "wrong" yet. She is seeing from the typical ob/gyn standpoint I suppose. It would be a whole hell of a lot easier to just do the bloodwork for me to give me peace of mind, and just answer the dang question. I have considered it yes. I am planning on temping next cycle, and see what happens. We are going to start ttc in the summer, so June cycle prob. I am going to check again with my insurance about what they do and don't cover. Thank you so much!

HAHAHAHAHA Ang!!!!!! Gi has a lil thang for the hubs ahahahaha. You are so right and when the time comes to try we are gonna just relax and go for it! With my history of not ovulating due to the meds i was really scared something may not be right now. I'm actually glad I've started monitoring and doing what I'm doing now. So that when we do start trying we don't waste any time. I am turning 30 this year too. I super appreciate your insight on the ob lax attitude. Kerri feels very strongly about that! Chat Icon
