Did you have your files forwarded from your previous Ob/gyn before your visit? Or did you go there first and then have them forwarded?

I miscarried in ’09 and I’ve been seeing my old practice so far in this pregnancy (which is really only the last 3 weeks! lol), but I knew already that I’d want to change doctors, so I have an appointment set up with the new doc for 3/29 when I’ll be 9w5d (so it would essentially be my 8 week appointment since I’m not going back to my old doc anymore, yesterday was my last visit, not that they know that!). So at least I don't have any testing results that would need to be sent over to them right away (other than the initial beta #'s, but I know those anyway). Just wanted to see how others have handled changing doctors! Thanks! Chat Icon

I switched OBs at 20 weeks. I had my entire file copied and I brought it with me. But I had had an amnio and a bunch of sonos by then. If i was very early inthe pregnancy I might not have worried about it as much.

I would try and get your records though if you are going to stay with this new Dr as your GYN.

I switched when i was about 8 weeks. I only went to my old Dr. once - so i didn't need anything to be transferred. Did you have any tests done at your previous Dr's?

no just for beta levels and progesterone. I guess I was thinking more of the history w/ the miscarriage and the large cyst I had at the beginning of this pregnancy (which seems to have broken up as of yesterday's sono!!).

I switched at 13w. The new doc wanted all my paperwork relating to the pregnancy (and my last pap) faxed to them before I even scheduled an appointment. I also had my old dr copy my file and send to me for my own records.

I switched at 24 weeks. I brought all my records with me. I would probably try to get at least any blood tests or sono you have has done so far and the history of the miscarriage and cyst.

thanks for the advice ladies!! I guess I'll just go to the first appointment and then request the files from my old ob, I just want to make sure I like the practice first!

I switched OB's when I was 20w. The new dr wouldn't accept me until he had all my files from my previous dr.

I switched at 24wks...had to request the files be copied and transferred to the new provider, and I believe I paid per sheet/copy to get it done before they'd do it....

I changed at 37 weeks, really late, had a hard time finding someone to take me late, but it was the best decision I made, I had to get a copy of all my pregnancy related visits, blood work and sono's for my first visit. I told my ob i wanted a second opinion and I did not have to pay as they wanted to charge me for my records.

Re: if you changed OB docs mid pregnancy....

I switched with my first pg at 16 weeks. They would not let me have copies they insisited I had to pay and they would send over my file to my new ob. Well they didn't do it so my new ob had to call them several times to get the reccords. If you can get copies that is awesome.

I went to the new dr first before asking to have my records transferred. honestly, they didnt even see a need for me to transfer my history, which I thought was incredibly odd!!
