Help! Stomach virus and BFing a newborn!
Ped's office doesn't open until 9:30am, so I am turning to you ladies. DD got a stomach bug and has passed it on to me....I have only thrown up twice, but have been on the toilet every 20-40 mins since 10:30pm last night. I have a 4 week old newborn, can she catch this stomach bug? I am EBFing, so supplementing wasn't an option. I did pump last night and had DH do a feeding in the middle of the night b/c I couldn't stay off the toilet long enough (sorry TMI)....but can she catch this? Please tell me no!

Yes she can.. keep breastfeeding though if you can.. keep washing hands.. dont put your face to hers....

She can, but if you keep BFing she should get some of your antibodies. Don't kiss her on the mouth and wash your hands as often as possible.

Yes you can. I had it last year when I was nursing and the Dr. said it was fine.

Keep nursing and wash your hands constantly. My ped always said keep nursing if you can when sick so the baby will get the antibodies. This way if the baby does catch it ti will be much less severe. Also make sure you are drinking enough water or get some Gatorade. Dehydration will kill your supply.  feel better.

this was me last week....i got the stomach virus..BAD - worse than my 4 yr old DD who gave it to me...
I have an 8 week old and she was fine throughout! I was lucky my dh was home bec I passed her off to him to change and burp her when I could and he wasn't busy..
i stayed in my room so my older 2 dcs didnt get it again from me..my dh became "mr. mom for 2 days!! haha
with your anti-bodies... apparently your NB is least likely to catch the bug in your house...It was true for us and i hope it is true for you too!!
feel better...it is the worst..i hope that bug stays away for a very long time in this house!!!

Thanks for the advise and encouragement! Feeling "better" today as opposed to last night, so definitely going to BF through it. And interesting enough, I too have it MUCH worse than my 3yr old DD....I guess it effects everyone differently!
