WWYD - keep getting wrong phone calls for SAME person on cell?
I hope I can explain this right ---
For the past few months, I've been getting calls for a "Lucy" -- doc appointments, lawyer calls, etc. Even though my outgoing voice mail message doesn't say "Lucy", the people still leave a message for her.
In the beginning, I ignored them all and assumed the callers would figure out they had the wrong number, but one man KEEPS calling my cell and asking for her.
Today he left a message again, so I returned his call telling him I'm not Lucy, you have the wrong number, etc. He asked who I was, where I was calling from, who Lucy is, how do I know Lucy, etc. He denied ever calling my number (yet it was the same voice from my VM message, it was his number on my caller ID and call history  ). I said, sorry, just trying to be courteous and give you a heads up that "Lucy" won't be calling you back because I'm not her....he hangs up.
An hour later he called me back -- and again asked who I was....saying, "Someone from your number has been calling me repeatedly and I don't know who you are...why are you calling me? Are you a business or are you a person?" I explained again that I only called him one time (today) and that was to tell him I'm not "Lucy", whom he's been asking for in his voice messages. 
What should I do? it's not really threatening, but it's really annoying and I'm wondering how to block this man's number....any advice?

I had a similar problem, because after the 516/631 split it seems that my cell number on the other area code was given to some type of photographer/photography studio.
When people called I'd say "I think you want 516, try again..." and then hang up on them. I also left a similiar message on my voicemail, that I'm not a photography studio and you dialed the wrong number.
I got the idea because once I misdialed cablevision's local help number, and it was an answering machine with a woman screaming "THIS IS NOT CABLEVISION!!"
Eventually, the calls stopped. I guess the guy fixed his advertisement/website or whatever it was that had the wrong area code.

When you find out let me know. Sandra apparently had my number before and never told anyone she cahnged it. I get her shrink calling yelling at her about missed appts, sewing clubs, cvs, kohls etc. i finally called the sewing club lady and asked if she has seen sandra recently, she said yes. I asked her to please tell sandra to inform all the above that ahe changed her number. Well, 3 years later i still get daily calls for her.

Yep. And I tell everyone when they call for her, "i guess she didnt tell you either that she changed numbers. Please stop calling"

For the longest time I got calls for Amanda. Apparently, my number was the fake number that Amanda gave out when she didn't want to be mean to random guys she met in bars.
I would get calls and texts at all hours of the day and night from desperate sounding men. It was pretty pitiful. After a few months it tapered off.

i have creditors calling for a Rosa (and last name). I've had the same number for YEARS - I've spoken to the creditors - sometimes they talk to me sometimes they just hang up on me! When i get to speak to someone I tell them its the wrong # - it stops for a bit but then it starts all over again.
this has been going on for YEARS -- like 6 years or so

I have a similar problem, except it is on my work phone! So annoying, oh and it's my old boss that they are calling for! I try and take the calls as much as I can to tell them it isn't his # any more (hasn't been since 2006) and to take the # off the list! The calls have decreased a lot but still happens now and then.

Still call.
Same here. A year + later we keep getting calls at our house for a mother and daughter who clearly owe the world $$$. One time an old lady called in the am and asked for them. DH told them they changed their number, this isnt theirs. So she proceeded to say "well there has been a death in the family." Dh was like "Uh, sorry, can't help you there. We don't KNOW them and can't pass along your news. Sorry."
It's so so annoying. I thought about changing my number but haven't given up yet.
Recently we got a call for a family member in a nursing home (they have called before and I have called them back telling them this is not so and sos # anymore). Apparently these 2 winners don't care about anyone that used to have their number, and we got stuck with their messes.
To the OP, the man sounds nuts. I am not sure what I would do.

I have a Real Estate agent who keeps trying to call Mike b/c she has some great properties to show him. I did the courtesy call back and she still keeps calling. So annoying!

DH gets calls from out of country in Spanish, the same # every time. We tried calling AT&T to have it blocked b/c we were afraid we were getting charged for it. They refused We finally learned to say "numero equivacado" or wrong number (I think LOL). They still call though.

I dont have cell phone issues really but I did have south side hospital calling me nonstop trying to get in touch with one of the docors... I would answer the phone and tell them they have the wrong number etc... And is like they never understood or bothered checking with the doc bc they would call back all the time... I finally had enough and went on optimum voice and actually blocked the number... Ive been a happy camper since... Maybe you could do the same if the same person is calling you

I have the same problem, except the caller doesn't speak English so I have no idea what he's saying. He leaves me messages but I've also answered the phone several times so he'd realize he reached the wrong person.... but no, he still calls my phone

Our home number had this issue for someone who had creditors after them. I went and looked up my number on google, and all of the other phone directories, Verizon, ATT, Yellow Pages. I had them switch the fact that two names were listed to the same number and update the records to reflect that ours was the only name on the number. We get calls once in a blue moon about the person, but we used to get them multiple times a day until I did this.

JUST A THOUGHT.........
since its a cell phone - the business that call can you report them on the do not call list? they can get fined for it which I imagine would get them to change the number fast.

i am pretty sure you can block the number from calling your phone. If it is the same number that keeps calling. call your cell provider and ask them to block the number, I am pretty sure Verizon can do this.

OT I also misdialed the Cablevision number recently. The lady that answered was really nice and gave me the correct number. She said it happens ALL the time. I told her she should just pretend that the caller reached Cablevision and play along with it.

I have the same exact problem. I don't know who William is but he owes a lot of people money and he needs to stop giving my number out as I have had the same one for at least 8 years now!

When I was in college I started getting all these crazy calls on my dorm room phone from men and women who would leave really dirty messages. I thought it was a prank at first but then one of my friends figured out that my number was the same as a 1-900 sex hotline minus the 1-900. I had to get the school to change my number. I think they felt really bad, especially since it was a Catholic college.

I had a similiar problem except I was getting FAXES trying to be sent to my cell phone!!! Nothing like being at work and having this happen! I have had my number for years and then out of the blue I was getting faxes, someone obviously got the wrong number, and I was also getting calls from interior designers and real estate people!!! I finally faxed a not so nice note on the fax number that was calling me and things have calmed down for now. UGH!

Just block their number. If you have Verizon, I know you can do this from your online account. If not, I'm sure other carriers offer something similar.
