Skipping an ultrasound
Has anyone skipped an ultrasound?
I was asked to go back for another prenatal visit this week just for an 8 week ultrasound and I really can't take another morning off work for a prenatal appointment.
Would you consider skipping if it's not absolutely necessary? The OB just wants to check the due date and heartbeat.

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
If you've already had one, sure.
I'm participating in a research study, but if I wasn't I wouldn't have had an until the 20 week anatomy scan. I opted to skip the first trimester screening, so its not medically necessary or anything

I personally wouldn't skip an ultrasound. Now that I'm not getting them often I miss hearing the hb and seeing the little one! Can't they see you after or before work?

They have no other time available so I'll have to take another 2 hours off work. Already did that with the prenatal apptment I had today. It didn't seem to make sense to go back again just for an ultrasound and miss more time off work. I'm a consultant so if I don't work I don't get paid. :(
I'm leaning toward not doing the ultrasound right now....

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
I would never skip and ultrasound especially an 8 week one. I would want to make sure there is a HB. OB appointments are hard to make especially around work, family, etc.. But for me I never miss one while pregnant.

I would not skip an appt. You will have lots of appts and will just need to take off for them so why skip now

No, I wouldn't skip an untrasound. Personally, I picked my dr partially bc she had evening hours so I wouldn't have to take off any time from work to go to appointments. I don't know if you would consider switching drs, but it's something to think about.

i personally would never ever skip any ultrasound under any circumstance. then again i have had problems in the past and i am super neurotic . Same here I would rather be on the safe side and let the dr catch any potential problem before its too late.

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
Have you heard the heartbeat yet? I wouldn't skip this one if you haven't - that's pretty important and good for your sanity. Plus, don't you want to know your due date and how far along you are??

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
Are there any hours very early before you start work? Or after work? Weekends?
I would want to hear the heartbeat and date the pregnancy. IMO this is not the sonogram to skip.

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
I wouldn't skip it - especially if you haven't heard the heartbeat yet. Unfortunately/fortunately (however you want to look at it) frequent MD appts are just a part of pregnancy. In my line of work, I also get paid based on what I do/bill out so I do understand, but my sanity to know that everything is going well with the baby and to make sure that the baby is developing well is priceless to me.

Re: Skipping an ultrasound
Thanks ladies, I was able to find another morning next week so will go get that ultrasound for peace of mind.
My DH also wants to check if there's a heartbeat (or two).
