I need a degree in advanced chemistry to get through that!

Re: Interesting Ingredient Comparison: Formula vs. Breastmilk
It's an interesting thing to view, i'll admit that!!
But honestly, I would think all bodily fluids are comprised of similar things, no? I'm not sure.I think if one were to look at a list of other bodily fluid components it would be similar.
I'm not knocking breastmilk. Just offering my viewpoint.

No, not really. And you wouldn't be feeding your child other bodily fluids...........

I wish my ped would read this...he told me the only thing in breastmilk that's not in formula is my antibodies!
Would you be comfortable printing it out and bringing it to your next appointment. My son's Ped always appreciates when I bring her reputable literature. Just because they have an M.D. doesn't mean they know everything....especially when it comes to Breastmilk. They spend about 10 minutes on that in med school.
That is a great idea! I don't know if I have the nerve...lol...bc he doesn't seem to be the type that would appreciate it...but I'll consider it next time we go. Luckily the other ped in the office is a woman who is way more supportive of bfing...I try to get her, but usually seem to get stuck with him. And I like him aside from his lack of knowledge/support of bfing.

When did I ever say that you'd be feeding your child other bodily fluids??
Our bodies are comprised of tons of different things...and when we EXCRETE anything from our bodies those elements are excreted as well...including sweat, urine, blood etc...
When I see a list of all of these things that breastmilk contains, i think it looks impressive-however, if you look at what other bodily fluids are comprised of you'd see (NOT ALL) but many of the same things. Thats all I was saying.
And I breastfed/pumped for over a month with each boy. I have no problem with it and think its awesome nutrition. I was just posting my thoughts regarding what was posted, that is all.

So amazing! I recently read that as baby starts to wean & gets less breast milk during the day, that the milk becomes stronger in antibodies/nutricious value to make up for less being drunk. So cool how your body knows!!
-------------------------------------------------------
Posted by twiceasnice Tryptophan - thats interesting because I read once that if you pump, not to feed your baby the night milk during the day. A woman's milk in the evening will make a baby more sleepy. It must have more trptophan.
WOW!! Thanks for sharing these little tidbits. I've always been amazed at how our bodies are not only able to grow a human being out of basically nothing and then nourish them, but everyday I feel like I'm learning something new about how incredible it really is.
And to OP - thanks for this. I've always known BM was full of nutrition, but this is pretty cool. Definitely saving this info.

Not necessarily. Blood has a very different makeup from breastmilk. So does urine, semen, sweat, etc. Not all body fluids are created equal. They might all have a long list of unexpected ingredients, but they're chemically different.

This is all wonderful & great.. but honestly.. this is all just words to me because I honestly have NO idea what the health benefits of most of those ingredients are.

Oh, i agree...of course all fluids will have varying components.
I guess what i was trying to say is that if you had a sheet in front of you with all the components of different body fluids, the lists would all be pretty lengthy. But obviously they would not share EVERY one of those on the breastmilk list, lol. Our bodies are pretty amazing!

Re: Interesting Ingredient Comparison: Formula vs. Breastmilk
I think this should be of great interest for all mothers, regardless of how you feed your babies.
every new thing that we find in BM that can be safely synthesized into Formula is a PLUS for all mothers. every time we learn something more awesome about breastmilk, we can make formula more awesome as well.
