Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

When did the first trimester exhaustion start for you? I'm 4.5 weeks and I feel like it's starting already!!!

If you had MS with your first, did you get it with your second? If so, when did that start?

How long before you had to start wearing maternity clothes again?

How did you get everything done? I can barely keep up with my 16 month old as it is & all the housework, laundry, etc. I can't imagine it when I'm so exhausted I can barely move!!!

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

OH my exhaustion started right away. I don't know if it's because of this pregnancy or because I am so tired running after my 15 month old!!

I didn't have MS with my first but I have it bad with this one!

I just started wearing maternity clothes recently...so at about 18 weeks I would say.

Oh man...I can't answer your last question because I am still trying to figure it out. I can only do so much, I will not go overboard.. I just can't! I don't have the energy, the time, the patience. I only do what is necessary. I will cook when I feel like it or else we order out. Same with cleaning. If I feel up to it, I will. If not, DH will help out. I think that is the key. Don't feel bad to ask for help!! Because that was my problem, I wanted to do it all but I just can't and I am finally realizing it!

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks. The exhaustion started shortly after that- maybe 6.5 weeks? It faded withing the last week or 2. I'm now 14.5 weeks.

I never had MS with DD and had it a little bit this time around. I threw up a few times and dry heaved alot. Never had that the first time around.

I was wearing maternity clothes starting around 10 weeks.

Here's my cleaning schedule.

I put in a load of laundry every morning and fold/put away at night. I also do one other chore each morning before I go to work. Sometimes it's just extra laundry. Today I vaccuumed and steam cleaned my rugs. Yesterday I did dishes and straightened up the kitchen...etc. I'm trying to get done one room at at time on Saturdays with the major cleaning and then just keep up with it during the week. Last Sat. I cleaned/organized my and DD's bedrooms. Now each day I just pick up whatever stray stuff there is and go on to the next chore. This Sat. I'm doing a major bathroom scrub down.

My house is still a disaster. In fact, DH had someone come to give us an estimate to refinish our hardwood floors and he actually told the guy we just moved in..even though it was 4months ago.Chat Icon Chat Icon

When did the first trimester exhaustion start for you? I'm 4.5 weeks and I feel like it's starting already!!!

*Almost immediately! I'm almost 16 weeks now and I'm still extremely exhausted.

If you had MS with your first, did you get it with your second? If so, when did that start?

*Never threw up with DC1, same with current pregnancy. Started to get nauseous around 7 weeks (where food seemed unappealing)

How long before you had to start wearing maternity clothes again?

*9 weeks Chat Icon

How did you get everything done? I can barely keep up with my 16 month old as it is & all the housework, laundry, etc. I can't imagine it when I'm so exhausted I can barely move!!!

*DH helps a lot. Housework has taken a bit of a backseat. I mean, I wipe the counters down every night and do the dishes and laundry, but mopping/vacuuming isn't as often and deep cleanings aren't as often either.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

The exhaustion started VERY early this time, around 6 weeks. Chasing after A all day doesn't help Chat Icon

I was lucky with my first pregnancy, I only had morning sickness for about 3 weeks before it subsided and I found the same to be true this time around too. I was so bloated right away so I started wearing my maternity clothes around 8-9 weeks I think.

As far as cleaning goes, I try to do the best I can....I do a small load of laundry a day so that it never piles up. Counters, playroom and floors every day either when A is napping or while he's busy eating in his high chair. Deep clean once a week when E is home so he can either keep A busy or take him out so I can get things done.

I delegate a lot to E and have been making him do more than usual because I just can't physically do it all myself. I know it's harder for you because M is not home as many hours as E but just do the best you can without overdoing it Chat Icon Some days I just leave it all until E comes home and just nap when A naps.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

Exhaustion started at about 8-10 weeks

Maternity clothes- not until about 20 weeks, but all my post partum clothes were in bigger sizes since I never lost weight from my 1st pregnancy

DH straightens up a bit every few days. I do at least 1 load of laundry every day- but we are usually living out of laundry baskets.

I do the dishes every other day (I HATE dishes), I sweep the kitchen almost every morning, the living room every few days.

I really need to get in gear and vaccuum and mop more than 1-2x a month Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am a TERRIBLE housekeeper and at 31 wks pg with an 18month old I have pretty much FULL responsibility for (DH doesn't help much with her) an working FT- I just can't keep up.

Maybe someday I'll have a few days free to do a thorough cleaning Chat Icon

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

I have a 14 month old and the first trimester was the worst for me. The exhaustion was really bad. I was talking naps every time DS took his naps. It got better around 13 -14 weeks.
Maternity clothes I started wearing around 11 weeks.

My house is a mess. Dh does so much other stuff and he works 6 days a week so I do what I can.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

When did the first trimester exhaustion start for you? I would say that by about week 6/7 it was pretty bad. Weeks 7-10 were brutal. I felt it subside a bit around 11/12, only for it to come back again! I am not exhausted ALL week now (at 15 weeks) but wednesday-friday are certainly rough! It gets worse as the week goes on!

If you had MS with your first, did you get it with your second? If so, when did that start? I had severe morning and all the time sickness with my first. It lasted thru 26 weeks, wehre I was sick every day. This time, I haven't thrown up once. Just bad queasyness in the beginning, and now just occasionally if I go too long between meals.

How long before you had to start wearing maternity clothes again? I went shopping around 8/9 weeks, wore a few thigns around 10/11 weeks, and now at 15 weeks am pretty much all the time in maternity. My belly is huge!

How did you get everything done? I have to tell myself that it is OK if the floors don't get cleaned one day and that I can't please everyone. I am doing my best. But let's face it, there is going to be even less time for ME TO DO EVERYTHING when our 2nd child gets here. So DH has started to help out more and I hope it stays that way!

I don't know when it exactly set in because I've been exhausted for awhile now! Chat Icon

Yesterday was the first time though in awhile that I was able to do some things after DS went to sleep.

I'm about 15 weeks.

ETA - I just wanted to add what I did - I went through bins and washed my fall/winter maternity clothes so I wouldn't freeze anymore!

- For me it started earlier this time, maybe around 5w.

If you had MS with your first, did you get it with your second? If so, when did that start?

- With DS it started at 6w on the dot. This time it started at 5.5w.

How long before you had to start wearing maternity clothes again?

- 10w for pants this time around! Shirts I would say 15w

How did you get everything done? I can barely keep up with my 16 month old as it is & all the housework, laundry, etc. I can't imagine it when I'm so exhausted I can barely move!!!

- Housework has suffered. I had to lower my standards because it's just not possible to get everything done when you are exhausted and caring for a toddler.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

This pregnancy is totally different than my first,

When did the first trimester exhaustion start for you? I didn't experience this with my first, but with this one, I was exhausted very early on-like 4 weeks. It passed quickly though and by 6 weeks I felt back to my normal exhaustion.

If you had MS with your first, did you get it with your second? I had all day sickness with #1. I had a wave here or there with this one, but I really feel good (which freaks me out).

How long before you had to start wearing maternity clothes again? I hate to admit it, but I never really stopped. I gained some weight and maternity pants are so much more comfy

How did you get everything done?
I work F/T and it gets done when it gets done. If someone has an issue with the fact that my DD's toys are all over, they just have to deal with it.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

I felt better at about 15 weeks or so, but I am still tired all the time. But Sash wakes up so early and i have slight insomnia so I am sure that has something to do with it!

Congrats btw!!

sorry- to answer other questions...

I was naus with both pregnancies, and again -- felt more myself at about 15 weeks.

I just started wearing maternity pants at about 20 weeks, but don't need to all the time.

Getting stuff done-- again, once I had a bit more energy it was easier-- but still things aren't run the same around here as before! Chat Icon

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

For me, the exhaustion started immediately this time. Even before I actually knew I was pregnant. However, it faded by the end of the first trimester-ish.

I had very mild morning sickness last time (a few weeks of nausea in the first tri, never threw up) and it was even more mild this time around. It didn't last as long and the nausea was a lot less intense.

This time, I was in maternity pants by 9 weeks.

Naptime/beditime is the getting stuff done time!

It's amazing how different things are this time around! I have been so incredibly sluggish and slow. I just don't want to do anything. Sometimes I feel like I am going to be like this the rest of my life Chat Icon

I am 9 weeks and have been wiped out since the very beginning. I pass out on the couch every night. I should just go to bed early, but I try to hold out and it never works.

No M/S this time or last.

I'm not in maternity clothes yet. Work pants fit, but I can't button my jeans. Going to try the belly bandit before moving into maternity pants or permanently living in sweats.

DH is how I get everything done! He has really picked up my slack. I only clean or cook if I have to, which thankfully isn't often. If you can afford it, maybe hire some help?

The exhaustion started very early for me around 5 weeks but by 8 weeks it was worse.

The MS is pretty similar to my first. I feel sick all day long but not much throwing up. It started at 6 or 7 weeks.

I have been in maternity pants since 8 weeks. But I am still wearing my regular tops.

My DH is helping a lot at home because I am just too exhausted to do much if anything. I clean once a week and cook once or maybe twice a week. That's about all I can manage these days. DH is also helping a lot with our DC.

My exhaustion started right away, like before I even knew I was pregnant.

m/s started a little later than it did with my 1st dc. With my ds it started at 6 weeks and lasted until I was 16 weeks. This time it started around 8 weeks and I was much better by 13 weeks.

I didn't really need maternity clothes until I was around 14 weeks with #2.

I forced myself to stay as active as I could. Getting up and going out with my ds in the morning when I wasn't too sick or tired actually helped me feel better overall. I also jammed as much housework in as I could when I wasn't feeling too awful.

Re: Questions for moms pregnant with 2nd DC

My exhaustion and nausea started immediately. It's what prompted me to POAS.

I spent a lot of my 1st trimester on the couch. I didn't get much done around our apt. DD#1 watched a ton of tv.

I had nausea with my 1st pregnancy up until 20/21 weeks, but only got sick once. Had pretty severe m/s with my 2nd up until 28 weeks.

Besides the m/s, after the 1st trimester I really felt pretty good up until the end. I had some more hip/pelvic pain with my 2nd, but still not an awful pg.
