For those further along (re: work)

How much time have you taken off because of being sick or doctor's appts.? I'm starting a new position in November with the same organization and they made it clear that they need someone consistent and I haven't told them yet since I'm probably only 4 weeks and haven't had my first OB appt. yet. But i'm getting a bit nervous that I might have to tell them sooner because they might choose to go with someone else.

I never missed work for being sick due to pregnancy. Can you schedule your doc appointments for the evening or weekends?

I have only been "out" 2 days since finding out I was pregnant. Both times I went to work and ended up leaving within the first couple hours.

The first time was due to spotting. I called my dr. and bc of my history he wanted to see me ASAP...everything was ok. The second time was actually thursday. I had virus like symptoms in the am and thought it was due to things changing in the third tri. Anyway turned out to be a regular virus, so not pregnancy related at all. For me, being pregant has not affected my work abilities at all. I am a teacher.

ETA: In the beginning I came into work late about 4-5 times due to the fact that I was seeing an RE every week. After that (once I switched to regular OB) I have never missed or left work bc of appointments. My dr. has late and sat. hours.

Re: For those further along (re: work)

28 1/2 weeks and I have only missed one day, it was a scheduled day off in advance so I could take my 1 hour glucose test in the morning. NOrmally I make evening appointments and even with the morning sickness I made sure to not leave early or call in sick - I knew it would affect me negatively if I did, so somehow I pushed through it.

I have only taken one day off that was pregnancy related in 35 weeks and I scheduled it in advance. Other that that I have maybe come in twice late. My dr's office has 1st appts at 7am which works great for my work schedule.

Re: For those further along (re: work)

With the gestational diabetes I had to go to a specialist who had really crappy hours. I had to leave several weeks in a row at lunch time to make a 3:00 appt in Bay Shore.

Then with working in construction the Doctors didn't like that I was walking all day and using a ladder so they stopped me from working altogether at 33 weeks. I was having contractions at the time.

Re: For those further along (re: work)

I did not want to miss work because I am a speech therapist and I have to make up the students I miss. So I made sure all of my Dr. appointments were after work. I think I stayed home sick 1 day and came in late another because of my glucose test, but other than that I never missed work. Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: For those further along (re: work)

i actually missed my first time this week because i have a sinus infection so i took a sick day.

I have to option to work from home and since i live in LI and work in the city i usually just do that when i have a dr appt. Most offices are flexible and offer extended office hours, if you dont have an option to work from home.

Good luck Chat Icon

I'm 36 weeks. I have only missed one day of work and it was due to my older dd being sick with 105fever. And I made 2 trips to labor and delivery in the 36 weeks! Although this will be my last week working.g. its too many hours on my feet I'm a nurse. And my bp is starting to sky rocket

Very little. I became an "expert puker" at workChat Icon and scheduled as many appts as I could for the evening.

I didn't have MS so I am 37 weeks and I haven't missed a day due to pregnancy.

I schedule my dr's appts in the evening after work.

In my first trimester I was spotting and saw my doctor after work that day. Spotting was my only complication to date. (knock on wood) So there was no need for me to miss work.

I haven't missed any work due to pregnancy related illness or doc appointments. It's not always easy to get up and get to work (when is it ever though??) but I get there!Chat Icon

Re: For those further along (re: work)

Thankfully I can go to my appointments during my lunch hour, so I haven't actually missed any days of work.

If you can, try to make as many appointments after or before work. I know its rough, but you shouldn't have that many appointments, especially in the beginning.

Re: For those further along (re: work)

I took 2 days off in the first trimester due to MS. Those 2 days it was so bad I never would have even made it to the train without getting sick a few times.

Other than that I have had to leave early for an appt here and there but my job is flexible with that type of thing.

I had plenty of days where I wished I was home cause I was so sick but I would rather suffer through so I could use my days off after the baby comes.

Re: For those further along (re: work)

No days at all. I took two Fridays off in the first 10 weeks that I happened to have Dr. appts on (I was seeing an RE) but they coincided with a visit from my parents who live overseas so I really took the time off to spend with them. I have had to come in late and leave early for appointments but that was maybe 5 times total. I work in the city and my Dr is in Suffolk so it's later when I get to the office after a 9 a.m. appt.
