Forgot to add..yes, we all parent differently. But your decision to breastfeed, or send your kid to daycare or be a SAHM etc...THOSE decisions are ones that don't result in tragedies like this one...we all have our ways of parenting.

But if a fellow LIF mom were to post that she was distraught that her kid was harmed because she let the three year old play outside alone, well, then, i sure as heck would be judging. It's irresponsible and a terrible disservice to the child. BUT i still have a heart and would feel sick for everyone involved..

from what i remember when i first heard the story was that she was out there with her older brother riding bikes; the older brother ran into the house; and literally within a few minutes the mom went out to get her and she was gone.

who knows what has changed. but i also thought I heard on good morning america that they found her body today? maybe thats not the case though.

Here is an article, you are right about the story, but OMG, ...her brother is only 5 years old. Not much better. But I think in some areas, people still feel safe and are just ignorant to the reality that yes, even your neighbor can be a closet murderer or molester. Sick. I feel terrible for those poor parents, I am sure they will never forgive themselves and learned a very sad lesson a very hard way. Awful.

I just read they did find her body. I am so sad for that family, no matter what choice they made. Their hearts are clearly broken.Chat Icon Chat Icon

My point in this is that unless you live in MO and know this family, this neighborhood, or this place you really can't comment on if it's appropriate. Maybe there it is. Maybe the parents have systems in place. Maybe a million other things. I just think we all need to step back and remember there are LOTS of other places where crime is NOT as bad as where we are and places are different. If this is Mayberry I am sure they felt some sort of false sense of security and are playing a dear dear price. It is because of THIS monster she is dead, and I felt like that was being missed.

Mayberry or not, a 3 year old isn't developmentally capable of making decisions regarding their personal safety....i.e. crossing the street while looking both ways, etc.

Actually I can comment. Absolutely. I am sorry but if I had a 3 year old and a 5 year old you can bet your azz they would not be playing ALONE in the front yard. And if I was irresponsible enough to let that happen, and my 5 year old proceeded to come in I would immeditaely go out and get my 3 year old. call me overprotective I guess.

I am not taking blame away from this sick sick fuuk at all. Ultimately he bears responsibility, but if this shows one parent that there is NO "mayberry" anywhere then something came out of it. Hopefully he is killed viciously in prison

Thinking about this sicko...I have a sad feeling it's race related. I just read in an article that relations in the town are strained re the incoming Latino population. That this tragedy has brought them all together (something to that effect). Makes me strongly wonder if this guy had hidden anger regarding this and took it out on the child when he found her (supposedly) in his yard.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also think I read he is a father of 3. His poor family.

ITA with you.

No matter how safe you think your neighborhood is, a 3 yr. old should not be watched by a 5 yr. old.

AGREED and I can comment. I SURE can! Mayberry doesnt exist. I dont care where you are. Yea maybe I am cynical because I grew up in Queens. Maybe I dont know what its like to live in a purely "safe" neighborhood, but if you ask me, there are psychos EVERYWHERE! Knowing that, a 3 year old OR a 5 year old doesnt belong on the streets by themselves. Yes of course this lunatic is to blame..but I just wish that child wasnt out there alone.

AND...in Mayberry time things STILL did happen. There was just not the technology then that there is today.
I love my neighborhood too and know most of the people but I won't even let my 7 yr. old go in the front yard by himself and I still worry about my almost teenager sitting in the front by herself.

Parents need to be a little smarter and make their children their 1st priority.

this sums it up.

i wouldn't allow my 3 yr old to be watched by a 5 yr old. heck... the 5 yr old needs to be watched by someone older and responsible.
i don't care where i live, who's on my block, etc...there's danger lurking EVERYWHERE, even in the most perfect of places! you don't know what goes on behind closed doors and no matter how well you 'know' your neighbors, you never really KNOW them.

the murderer is a sick sick sick person, and definitely will be held accountable, i'm sure. i don't know what the heck is wrong with people that kill defenseless children. ugh!

i also think... had he not killed her, she very easily could have drowned in that pool. another reason why a 5 year old isn't capable of babysitting a 3 year old.

sorry but that's my opinion. it's definitely irresponsible parenting. i'm sure they feel tons of regrets right now. i really feel bad for the family of that poor lost little girl.

It really is so terrible that she went missing! I have a 4 year old and she's never out of my sight! She rides her bike outside under my supervision, I won't even leave her outside alone for 10 seconds..If I go inside, even if it's just to pee, shes right behind me!

My neighbors kid is 3 and they let him outside alone constantly. Things like this worry me so much. They have no fence on one side of the yard, and we live 3 houses from a SUPER busy road. He rides his bike all day, no shoes, sometimes in PJS all alone. Sometimes I watch him out the wondow while I'm doing the dishes and I feel bad walking away and not watching him, and he is not even MY kid.

These stories chill me to the bone.

I pray for the family. And the baby girl who suffered. Monsters in our world : (

See, this makes me sick. Have you talked to the parents of this child?? I know people say to stay out of others business, but I would HAVE to do something. This child is going to end up being hit by a car...ugh...
