Re: question for jewish moms-baby naming

At least in my circle of family and friends it is word of mouth not a formal invite like a shower.

Re: question for jewish moms-baby naming

We did the bris at our house on the 8th day, the invite is usually word to mouth but I sent out an evite as well; because of the time sensitivity there wasn't an option for a printed invite. I worded it like this:

Dear family and friends,

Please join us to celebrate the Bris of our beloved new son at our home. The ceremony will be lead by Rabbi (insert name). Light refreshments to follow the ceremony.

We kindly ask you to RSVP by (insert date).

Best regards,
(your names)

i agree. a Bris and baby namings are word of mouth or sending an email. its an informal invite.

Re: question for jewish moms-baby naming

This was the invite for Abby's baby naming. We had a formal ceremony in shul and celebration afterwards - not in the home - so guest lists and invitations were most definitely necessary or we would have been feeding the free world. We were also still in mourning for my mother whom Abby had been named for (one of her names) and we (my siblings and I) felt it fitting to be able to say Kaddish for her. It was a very bittersweet day.

Jeremy's bris was in a home so it was vastly different because it was in the middle of the week. A bris is not done by invite - more of a word of mouth, but in my family, baby namings are done by invite - everyone does things differently.

ALSO, DH was ADAMANT about having her named when the Torah was open - he's pretty Conservative. That happens on Saturdays for sure and Mondays and Thursdays as well in addition to holidays. The best time for us was on a Saturday so we could make sure that who we wanted to attend could be there and not have to lose a work day.
