Blue Cross Blue Shield VS. United Health????
When the baby comes we will be going under DH's insurance.
He has the choice of Blue Cross Blue Shield OR United Health.
Does anyone happen to know if one is better than the other?
Any insight into either of these insurances would be very helpful. TY
ETS: For the birthwe will have my insurance (GHI) this is for once the baby is here--basically pediatrician visits.

Re: Blue Cross Blue Shield VS. United Health????
We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield and we hate them, every year they raise out rate, our deductible is now $3,000 and i have to carefully pay attention to my claims because they try to deny some when they are supposed to pay, they told us some wrong information regarding DD's coverage when she was a newborn and it cost us $700. Can't wait to get rid of them.

you get a choice? I was told who ever has the earliest bday will be primary for LO.. meaning, if you had Feb bday and DH and July bday.. LO will be covered under you first and then DH.. hmm..

I have the same choices and have had both with my employer. I'm currently with Blue Cross Blue Shield and no compliants.
we have the 90% PPO plan and it is identical to United Health...I went with BCBS because they are the larger entity but I think either is the same as long as the terms are comparable...which for a fortune 500 they probably are since it's all negotiated.

I have never had an issue with United Health Care. They are really good IMO.

Although some ins companies are better than others, it really depends on the plan and what each one offers. Id find out more details of each plan and compare them. What are the copays deductibles do you have out of network coverage. Also check to see which plans your current doctors accept.

ditto. the company doesn't necessarily matter - it's what your plan covers. I would look at both plans and compare the difference. i've had BCBS in the past and it was fine, but a lot of it was b/c my company made sure we had a really good plan. same goes for Oxford now.

This is what i was going to say as well. you can have 2 different people with BCBS and the plans be TOTALLY different. Same with United. It depends on the deal with the company offering the plans.

Re: Blue Cross Blue Shield VS. United Health????
Thanks girls.
I have to do research bc from what DH is telling me we can add on coverages but then the amount we pay per check goes up.
So I need to find out what I need covered vs what is useless, kwim? Any insight on what kind of coverage is good for an infant?
I know I sound clueless, bc I am I have had GHI my whole life.

your contribution amount will definitely go up regardless of whose insurance you choose, unless you don't pay into it.
we each have our own insurance right now. DH doesn't pay into his, but my coverage is better. so the baby will go on mine, and my monthly contribution will go from individual to individual + child (which is still a lot cheaper than family if I were to add dh). I think your company plan will also tell you what's covered for an infant - it depends on what they have decided; the only things that are typically add ons are dental or vision coverage, but the medical benefits don't vary (I'm pretty sure).

Re: Blue Cross Blue Shield VS. United Health????
We have UHC (United Health) and I LOVE IT. They cover everything, no questions or problems...it's awesome. I think it does depend on the actual plan and the terms of each plan though.
DH is a PAPD Police Officer and their union neg the contract with UHC that gives us insane bene's.

Re: Blue Cross Blue Shield VS. United Health????
i think it depends on your plan, but DH had united and they were great for #1. I literally paid $15 for the first copay and never paid another dime.
His company was bought out and they went to BCBS and they were supposed to be comparable...no way! We pay our $1300 deducatble every year.
It works out though, since I turn my down, I get 35% of the single plan's cost...so it is like having free health coverage.
