Parking TIcket question
So after my accident, I drove back to my apt to grab something regarding my insurance policy. Since nyc has that lovely thing called ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING.. I double parked in front of my house and ran upstairs.
within MINUTES (quite possibly seconds) a traffic cop was out there giving me a ticket.
I ran out and BEGGED him not to give it to me but he already started it... so you know how that is. But he mentioned that since I was in front of my own house and my address is written on the ticket, I could possibly fight it and say i was unloading something heavy.
What are the chances? I know it's VERY EASy to get the ticket reduced. I do that all the time (but its only 25 less....)
Should I fight it? Has anyone ever done that and won?
I WAS just in front of my own house and there is NO PARKING anywhere in sight when ASP is in affect.
What really blows is that there were 3-4 double parked cars down the street and not ONE of them got a ticket,
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Parking TIcket question
Don't get me started on double-parking....there seems to be a double-standard by the traffic cops when it comes to this. Either ticket people all the time or don't ticket people at all.

Re: Parking TIcket question
I would fight it. The traffic agents in NYC are a joke. I had one write me within seconds of alternate side starting--I was in my car with the engine on and in drive, waiting for the light to change so I could pull out and move to a meter, because there was a line of cars next to me. I got into a screaming match with him, and wound up filing a report (he was cursing at me, and telling me he'd write me a ticket for running a red light--which they don't have the authority to do, and I didn't even get to the light at that point!)
Either way, the ticket was completely dropped. I fought the ticket based solely on the facts (not even his demeanor, that was filed seperately). It's worth a try--if anything, it might get dropped.

Re: Parking TIcket question
I fought one...
it was a parking cop who gave me a ticket for expire inspection.
so I had it inspected and sent in paperwork.
instead they stated that I was "disputing" it and lowered the charge of the ticket.
With that I accepted, since technically I was in the wrong (by a day) and paid it.
DEF FIGHT it!
