Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
Not to diet but just to watch what you are eating? Now that I'm on "modified" bedrest I'm considering it just so I don't put on too much weight. Anyone have any input?

well i am not following weight watchers as a diet, but i have in the past and have continued eating a lot of the same foods. When I cook, I generally make healthier versions of foods like I did when I was strictly following weight watchers. I also buy some weight watchers products still like cheeses, bread, and desserts.

I would check with your doctor, I would imagine you could follow it but would probably be given a lot more points

Re: Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
I don't know if WW is recommended during PG. I know they have a program for BFing moms. I have been eating healthier because I'm being treated as a diabetic and need to keep my sugars down. Because of the way I've been eating, I'm only up 8 pounds at 29 weeks. Before we started TTC a doctor told me it would be possible to lose weight during PG if I ate right. I wasn't trying on purpose, but because of the diet I need to follow it has happened. And I don't exercise. Besides work, where I'm sitting all day, I'm home keeping my feet up.
Just stick to whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies, lots of water (no juices or sodas), and no sweets.

My sister was on WW before she got pregnant and when she got pregnant her WW leader told her that she wasn't allowed to do it while pg. Maybe just stay away from sweets while on bedrest?

Re: Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
According to WW, you are definitely not allowed to do it while PG. Mostly for their liability purposes I would think. That said, the new WW program really is a healthy way of eating. I would go with their healthy eating guidelines, but not follow the points system. Likewise, the core program (or whatever it is called now) is probably safe b/c you have to eat when hungry, and you are not supposed to be overly full, just satisfied. I am eating mostly the same things I did while on WW, just a little more.
Also, a lot of WW products have aspartame in them- something I avoid- not sure whether you do also- so watch out for that.
Def talk to your doc if you are unsure! I am sure that he or she can help devise a healthy way of eating that will prevent too much weight during the bed rest.
Good luck!

You cannot do WW while pregnant. I had to cancel my membership when I found out I was.

Re: Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
When i was pg i had been on WW for 2 months (I had been on it years ago). I was still overweight when i got preg and needed to watch what I ate anyway. During my preg, I ate the same way I had been but tried not to limit my calories. When we went out to eat (rarely) I ate whatever I wanted. I gained 10 lbs during my preg, most at the end. I have since lost it all and more

Exactly--just try to eat healthier, fresher foods. You should not be dieting while pregnant.
While WW is a great diet if done correctly, you can technically eat 4 Snickers bars and still be within your alloted points for the day.

Re: Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
Weight Watchers is great b/c they have the guidelines of healthy eating. If you follow those, and make sure you aren't restricting your calorie intake, you can follow the plan. I would not count points, but would pay attention to how satisfied/hungry you are. If you are really following the WW plan, you cannot just eat 4 snickers and still be "on plan"- you have to eat a certain number of veggies, fruits, protein, dairy, water, etc. These healthy eating guidelines jive well with pregnancy.

Re: Is anyone following Weight Watchers while preggo?
i have been doing WW for almost 7 years now. I lost about 75 lbs. in about a year and have kept it off since. I am (well before pg) be very strict during the week with food and gym. Then I would go off on the wekends. I am currently eating the same as i did before. Howeveer, I have added here and there. I drink milk in the am, added a lot of extra fruits and veggies and if I am hungry I will enoy a healthy snack. I am just getting back to the gym about 2-3 times a week. I still feel like I am gaining a lot though.....ill be 13 weeks tomorrow and im up 4 lbs.....idk if thats a lot or ive just been obsessed with my weight for the past 7 years. Like others have said its about eating healthy and having a good diet....there is nothing wrong with that.
