Flying Question
I'm flying down to MD, short flight 45 minutes, for my sister's graduation soon. I'll be 18 weeks. On the way home, I know BWI has those backscatter machines. I don't feel comfortable with the radiation level. I know they say they are safe, but they have no idea yet. Has anyone refused to go through one of these? Were the people accommodating? I've been much more vocal for standing up for myself since being pregnant, and I look pregnant at 16 weeks, so I have no problem refusing, just don't want to make a big scene .

Re: Flying Question
i haven't yet but have a bunch of flights scheduled over the next few months (yay wedding season) and if anyone tries to xray me i DEFINITELY plan to opt out. even if i wasn't pregnant there is so much negative press about the radiation exposure its not worth it.

Re: Flying Question
I flew to Boston at 19 w and my OB told me to explain that I was PG if asked to go through the backscatter xray and to ask for a pat-down/search instead if that were to happen. He said the regular machines were fine, but asked that I not go through the high-intensity xray because they just don't know yet.
