Breastfeeding moms: What bottles did you register for?

and how many?

I am looking at the gift set of Medela that includes breastmilk bottles, nipples and caps for collection, storage and feeding of breastmilk: three 5-ounce bottles with nipples collars and caps for pumping and feeding breastmilk; 20 Pump & Save breastmilk bags for pumping and storing in one container, as well as freezing; and six 80-milliliter bottles perfect for smaller amounts of pumped breastmilk.

I also plan on adding 6-8oz Medala bottles and Medela® Breast Milk Freezing and Storage Containers

I do plan on BFing but am figuring that sometimes I will pump and use a bottle..or maybe the baby won't latch and I will HAVE to pump, kwim??

Also does anyone know if these bottles work with formula? Prob a silly question but in the instance BFing does not work out...

Does this sound about right? Chat Icon TY so much Chat Icon

oh wow. I plan on BFing and hopefully it works out.

I just registered for regular bottles... I did Born Free kind. I figured those would work fine. Now you got me thinking.

I didn't register for a pump or any of the boob stuff though. I'd rather it be my responsibility to buy.

I registered for the set of 5 oz. bottles and the set of 8 oz. bottles---both Medela, we i had BFing problems with DD i bought some Dr. Brown bottles when i had to switch to formula, im sure you could probably use them with formula since they are a bottle but i didn't, i don't remember why.

Re: Breastfeeding moms: What bottles did you register for?

I breastfed for the first 4 months and I used Dr. Browns when I wanted to give a bottle of BM.

I also had the Medala pumo and bottles but I HATED the bottles for feedings. I just used them to store BM in the fridge.

The problem is the medala bottles have no airing system. SO bubbles would build up and she would get GASSY and cry. The dr. Brown bottles has a lot of annoying parts BUT it lets out the air and my DD did great on those.

I didn't like the medela bottles either. i just used them for pumping and refrigerator storage (before I transferred to freezer bags)

I think medela has improved their freezer bags (now with ziplock rather than twist ties). i hated the twist tie ones and was happy when I used the gerber ones with #2.

for bottles I used avent with #1 and then the whole BPA thing came out with #2, so I was able to trade in the avent for Born free at BRU. I'm pretty sure avent is BPA free now and both brands were very similar.

So basically I can use Avent bottles..I do NOT need "special" bottles bc it is breast milk right?

I know this probably sounds stupidChat Icon but I am clueless!

I am going to attempt breast feeding but I registered for Dr. Browns bottles. I plan on using those if breast feeding works out and I pump.

I bought First Year Breastflow. They get the best reviews I have seen for nursing. I used Avent last time with DS and they were fine but I had to nurse with breast shields last time which I refuse to use this time.

No you don't need special bottles. Some bottles/nipples are better for nursing babies if the baby has nipple confusion. It is really trial and error.

Dr. Browns and Born Free. I'm hoping that the Born Free is Chat Icon 's choice because the Dr. Brown's has all of those pieces, but I figured better to have options.

Re: Breastfeeding moms: What bottles did you register for?

I did Avent with ds who was EBF I owned 3 9oz bottles which he never took.
This time I registered for 3 9oz bottles by Avent again. I think if you wont be using bottles FT than you dont need many nor do you need each oz size.

I hope to EBF, but registered for Tomme Tippee bottles, for the times when I have to be away from DD, and she will have to be fed by someone else.

I EBF and pumped only for the first 2 months. The medela bottles were TERRIBLE. No airflow at all! We used Tommee Tippee and he took to them like a champ, no nipple confusion at all

Re: Breastfeeding moms: What bottles did you register for?

Most typical bottles require totally different suction than the breast, and some babies have a hard time transitioning back and forth. I recommend buying a BFing-friendly bottle. I bought a package of three BreastFlow bottles off of Amazon (though I know they're sold in other places).

I BF ds for the first year and switched between BF and bottles from about 2 months old on. The only bottles he liked were the medela ones. He hated everything else. I would only register for a starter set of bottles until you figure out what dc likes. It could be a waste to register for the larger sizes if they don't like that bottle. I went through several different ones before settling on the medela.

I plan on EBF, but using some bottles here and there. I got some playtex ones, born free, and tommee tippee. I figured I'd try it out and see which ones work.

We registered for the Born Free gift set when I was PG with DC1. That's all we used! We ended up buying 2 or 3 more bottles at some point, and more nipples. With BF babies, they are all different, and you may have to try several different bottles before you find one they will take. I agree with PP who said the Medela ones don't have a vent system though- which can cause gas bubbles. There are a number of bottles out there now with vent systems. We love Born Free, and all the parts are dishwasher safe. I know many people who swear by Dr. Brown's also.
