Anyone have climbing wisteria or anything that is a vine that climbs?
I'd like to have some creep around my porch, but I'm scared as to what may be too damaging to the structure.
Any tips? or reccs?

Re: Anyone have climbing wisteria or anything that is a vine that climbs?
I had wisteria grow over a wrought iron arbor at my other house (ex-h still ives there). It has grown to be a monster (but is gorgeous) and needs to be pruned every year but ex-h has been lax with it the last few years. The vines are very thick and strong and grab onto anything but since it is not growing on a structure connected to the house I'm not sure if it could damage but it can get out of control.
He also has clematis which is equally beautiful and will bloom all summer long, where wisteria only blooms for a few weeks in the spring. I'm sure someone here with more knowledge of wisteria can help you out as far as possible damage to structure.

Wisteria is aggressive and sends up runners thru the ground that constantly have to be cut. It's also very messy once the blooms are done.
Clematis is gorgeous comes in many different colors. I like climbing roses. Flowering kiwi. Trumpet flowers Honeysuckle

I'll have to look into this clematis then...even though it sounds like an STD.

I am not a fan of vines. They can get out of control and ruin things. I would never intentionally plant them. Be careful if you do, make sure you have a plan.
