just a sad vent

i had a miscarriage last February and a chemical pregnancy this past Dec/Jan. to my surprise I got a BFP immediately following the chemical. I called my OB and they sent me for an Hcg count, it came back at 4100. my OB estimated me to be around 4 weeks and my primary care dr estimated me to be between 2-4 weeks. they scheduled me for a sonogram to date the pregnancy a week after the hcg was done, we only saw an empty sac. they also took a 2nd hcg which came back at 10500. the dr called me later that day and told me with those numbers we should have saw more and the pregnancy is not viable. i was scheduled for a 2nd sonogram 7 days later (today), nevertheless we still only saw an empty sac, only bigger. i'm estimated to be 6 weeks but i cannot be sure because my LMP was the chemical. anyway, the dr suggested a d&c, i'm devastated. i feel lost, sad and like something is wrong with me. at this point i think i'm going to let nature take its course and wait to miscarry on my own. sorry if this is long and rambling, i'm just worried i'll never be able to have a successful healthy pregnancy again. if you got this far, thank you for listening.

Re: just a sad vent

First time I had my blood drawn they didn't give me the numbers, just told me they confirmed my pregnancy (somewhere around 5 weeks).

At 6 weeks they did sono and drew blood. Saw gestational sac and yolk sac. No HB. Beta was 30,000 progesterone was 11. They said that was low and suggested I start progesterone suppositories.

At 6w5d they had me do another sono. Sono showed no change in size of gestational sac, no fetal pole either. My OB said the pregnancy wasn't viable based off my high betas, low progesterone and lack of HB/fetal pole. This was a Friday. They scheduled me for a D&C for the following Monday.

Went in for the D&C at 7w1d, and before the procedure they did a sono to make sure there was no change.

Well there was a healthy heartbeat! So they kept looking and found a 2nd healthy heartbeat. Apparently my betas were so high because I was pregnant with identical twins.

It's so hard to be in such limbo right now, but I would hold off on making any additional decisions until your next sono. Your dates can be off, which would result in your being not as far along as maybe your numbers indicate.

Re: just a sad vent

i would do the same.
if your numbers are doubling and the sac is growing... and you don't know when you ovulated (which is more important than LMP)...
idk.. i don't want to give you false hope... but i'm not 100% convinced about this not being viable.
and what's 2 weeks along?? that's usually your ovulation date. do they mean gestationally? bc then that's 4 weeks pregnant. If you were 4 weeks then I'm adding you as 6 weeks now... and that's like where you would only start to see something... so if they are behind by just a few days.
IDK... i'm just not convinced for some reason.

If it does turn out this way... i'm really really sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Make sure to have another sono and blood workup before going for a D & C. Sunflowerjess's story always sticks in my head when I hear these stories. I don't want to give you false hope but at the same time, it's worth the 2nd check.

thanks everyone.

i'm not scheduling a d&c right now. i'm going to wait a couple of weeks to see if i miscarry on my own. if not, i'm going to go for a 2nd opinion and get another sono before anything

Re: just a sad vent

Hi, I am going to FM you. I could have written this EXACT same story, actually I did write it a few days ago.

I am supposed to be 8 weeks this friday and I am having a 3rd sono to check one more time. I am not getting my hopes up…I have ALREADY been told this is not viable pregnancy from 2 doctors but I have heard some crazy stories so I need to have one more look and my doctor actually offered it. So don't give up yet and ask for a 3rd sono in another week.

Also google the website misdiagnosed miscarriages…there are some CRAZY stories on there. It gives you some hope and incentive to not rush the D&C and get a 2nd opinion or another sono!

This is exactly why I try to share my story whenever I see these threads. I am sure everyone is tired of hearing it, but I feel like doctors have become so passive an dismissive these days.

I also don't want to give any false hope, just a realization that doctors CAN and ARE wrong sometimes. Chat Icon Chat Icon
