Ladies who color their hair....

Do you always go to a salon or do you do it yourself? If you do it yourself, can you recommend a dye?

I use to ALWAYS go to the salon but now with the two boys, I rarely have time plus my hair dresser is only there on Tuesday (the one day I don't have a sitter). I am getting grey, so I was considering doing it myself until I can get to the salon but so afraid!

I have always used Nutrisse if i'm doing one color. They are pretty fool proof, but you can always try a semi-perm first. If the color is not what you wanted, it will wash out in a few weeks. If you do like it, you can call the # on the box and ask them which perm color would match it. I have been doing my own hair at home for 10+years off and on and out of all that time, I have only had one bad experience and it was because my hair was brown, and I didnt read the box where it said ' reddish undertones' and I ended up looking like carrot top. But even still, I went to a salon and they fixed it.

I have used almost every variety that CVS sells, and honestly, I've found no difference amongst them. I just find the shade that I want and I get that brand. I've dyed my hair dozens of times with this method.

I find myself always going back to L'Oreal Excellence Creme which is a permanent dye. I've been using it since high school, so that's 20 years. Chat Icon

Revlon Colorstay. Cheap and has great coverage. Sometimes they are on sale

I go to her house. She also will travel to her other clients homes as well. She's honest, VERY talented and a really sweet woman. I have been using her for years now.

This is what I use too and my hair dresser always compliments what a great job I do on application and picking the color. He also said for basic stuff like that to save my money and continue to do it at home.

Re: Ladies who color their hair....

i was going to do it myself, but i figured for the length of time the color lasts, it may be the same price to go to the salon every 3 months and get my color.

I use this one too and I really like it. I tried the semi permanent first and loved it, so then I tried the permanent one this weekend and my hair came out great. it was really easy, but I needed DH help since I have long hair
