Re: Super bummed

I failed the one hour and am not by any means a skinny chick...I passed the 3 hour...take it one step at a time..it sounds like you are being careful and doing all of the right things and, like everything else in this pregnancy, you will do it for your LO! Chat Icon

You better stay away from "What's for Lunch or Dinner?" threads. Chat Icon

Sorry you didn't pass but it doesn't really mean anything as you can read from this board. It just $ucks that you have to sit there for 3 hours.

Awww stupid pregnancy hormones! Don't worry, don't a majority of people fail the 1 hour anyway? I'm sure you're going to pass the 3 hour. Try not to stress!Chat Icon

Re: Super bummed

Don't get down on yourself. I'm in the same boat at almost 35 weeks....just took the 3 hour yesterday and waiting for the results.

If it makes you feel any better, it has nothing to do with weight or weight gain or your size. I asked my dr. and she said it's the way your placenta works with the hormones in your body that blocks insulin. Watching your diet does help and genetics can play a role in making you more at risk for GD. My dad and both grandfather, as well as many others in our family have Diabetes so it wasn't a surprise to me.

You are doing all you can for your baby. I felt the same way and then I said, I've been doing everything like a model pregger, if I have GD, I will take it from there. As long as you take care of it, the baby will be fine.

Best of Luck to you and bring things to do, the waiting is the worst part when ur just sitting there.

I know it's hard but try not to get too worked up by it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I failed the 1-hour and was scared of taking the 3-hour because, like you, my dad has diabetes so I thought I was going to be diagnosed with GD for sure.

I ended up passing and hopefully you will too!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

When I was talking the 3 hour a woman told me that only 10% of women who take the 3 hour actually fail and have GD.

Don't stress yourself. Even if you do have it, it can typically be controlled with diet and you and the baby will be fine.

Hey girls. I'm at the lab right now and on my Blackberry, so apologies if this isn't quite as eloquent as I'd like. I just wanted to thank you all so much for your kind words and sentiments. I know it's not the end of the world if I do have GD. I just felt so guilty and sad yesterday. But thank you for your incredible kindness to me. It is so, so appreciated.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was overweight when I got pregnant (and still am! lol) and I didn't gain much either 25 lbs total. I had GD. Diabetes runs in my family- everyone has it! I kinda knew I'd have GD. If you have a nasty Dr like one that I saw, they will tell you that you have GD bc you are overweight and make you feel bad. It's not true. Most of the women in my GD classes were not overweight at all.

Honestly, it's not that bad. I was able to control it with Diet- basically cutting out most carbs. Just make sure to monitor it and to keep it within limits. My Dr sent me to two classes and they were really informative. At first, I cut out all carbs, well I was waking up with blood sugar levels of 50--60! I adjusted my diet and was better. I didn't have to go on meds, but some people do. It's all about the health of you and the baby. Don't look at it as you failed somehow. it's part genetics too.
It may seem like it's the end of the world, I felt like that when I was diagnosed...but it's not! And there are tons of wonderful ladies on here who can offer advice and let you vent!
