I need help changing bedtime routine please!

James is almost 17.5 months and I think it's time to ditch the bottle that he gets before bedtime. I love giving it to him and I know he likes that time with either DH or I (whomever gives him the bottle that night). Right now our routine is bath, teeth, pj's, bottle, bed. I know that I should probably brush his teeth AFTER the bottle, but that's just what's always worked for us.

How can I re-work his bedtime routine to get rid of the bottle?

After tyipng this whole thing out, I'm pretty sure I've posted the same exact thing before. Chat Icon Just humor me and answer me again, will ya? Chat Icon

Merci beaucoup! Chat Icon

Can you give him milk with dinner, then bath brush teeth, books and bed?

To be honest, I still offer the bottle to DD at almost 21 months. Most nights she does not take it. She kind of weaned herself off of it. She eats dinner a little later now - like around 6pm and she goes to bed at 7:30-7:45pm. That helped.

ETA: it's a sippy, not a bottle.

He's been eating dinner a little later lately (like 5:45) and going to bed at 7 (he's DONE at that point Chat Icon ). Some nights he'll only take 2 ounces from the bottle, other nights he'll down the whole thing and ask for more.

I guess I can try giving him his milk with dinner, but then I'm afraid of him waking up with an empty belly... Chat Icon

I had that fear initially too. What about bringing milk in a sippy up to bed first. Then you can wean him from that.

We were able transition DD from bottle by giving her the sippy during bedtime story part of the routine. So for us we do bath, teeth, pj's, sippy and story, bed. Intially, she would only yake a few sips but now she drinks it all most nights.

He would be fine.. at that age, they are eating solids so the bottle isn't their only source of nutrition...Try and give him his milk with supper and then do your routine (minus the bedtime bottle) and that's it.. don't even mention it to him or offer and see what happens..

I forgot one little teeny tiny bit of info.... he won't drink milk out of a sippy at night for some reason. Morning, fine. Afternoon, fine. Once the sun goes down - not having it. Chat Icon

It will be fine, and so easy.

Give him a sippy starting at dinner. It may take him awhile to finish it. I'm always putting the cup back into Tyler's hands.

Whatever he drinks is great, at this age he is mostly on food so he won't wake up.
