TV in Nursery?
Anyone putting a TV in the nursery? I want the glider in there, and figure I will be spending a lot of time in there, and as much as I will love staring at LO's face, I think I need something else to look at too, lol.
DH thinks it is nuts. Is anyone else doing this?

Re: TV in Nursery?
Funny b/c we're the opposite. If it was up to DH there would be TV's in every room. There pretty much is. The baby's room is the ONLY one in the house without a TV.
Yes, we're TV watchers. THe first 3 months he was in our room so those night feedings did go a little better b/c I watched TV (DVR is the best). When he was STTN (or at least longer) and in his room didn't really have a need to watch TV in his room. We read books every night on the glider and had the bottle. I'd rock him and put him in his crib. He learned to fall asleep on his own anyway. If it was really bad and I was spending too long in his room trying to get him to sleep I'd eventually just go to our room. That really didn't happen too often. I loved his nursery. Very peaceful so there were times I'd take little naps on the glider with him.

Re: TV in Nursery?
No TV in the nursery.
I foudn with DS that if I put the TV on at night while feeding him, it over stimulated ME! Meaning I would have a hard time going back to sleep after DS was put back down. So I started just using a nightlight and then had no issues going back to sleep.

Re: TV in Nursery?
As a BTDT mom I dont thin kits necessary at all. Even though you will be up most of the night in the beginning, I dont think you will able to focus on any kind of show LOL.
Between the mid night feeding, changing, burping I dont think you'll have time to watch TV
Just my opinion though.

Re: TV in Nursery?
As a BTDT mom, in the first few weeks when I was wired and needed a tv we were in my room anyway. Then I quickly realized it was contributing to the day/night confusion so I stopped with the tv anyway.
DH and I don't personally want our children having tvs in their room until they are at least 10.

Re: TV in Nursery?
I think I am going to we have a small flat screen with DVD built in that we don't use so it will be good for music and when baby is a little older the kiddie shows while mommy is getting ready for work lol

Re: TV in Nursery?
well we don't have a nursery LO will be in our room until we move! but we don't have a tv in our bedroom and kind of want to keep it that way. . just feel like there is enough tv in our lives w/o giving us more opportunity to watch. ..
but that's a personal thing too. .

Re: TV in Nursery?
No. I used my Ipod Touch a lot when DS was a baby, while rocking him or feeding him in the nursery. Helped me to stay awake for those late night feedings.

Re: TV in Nursery?
No, we're working on getting a better one for our bedroom (to save room), but I think we'll just get rid of the old one rather than putting it in the nursery. I feel like feeding time I'll want quiet with maybe just music so baby can sleep and not ge too used to sleeping to the sound of a tv in her room. I think if I decide I need the tv though, then I'll just rock her in the living room sometimes.

Re: TV in Nursery?
I was going to put one in - but for the first few months LO will be in our room, so I have the TV there for the night feedings and for the day time I figure I will be in the rocker in the living room. I feel once LO is in crib - they hopefully will be STTN and I won't have to be in there doing feedings enough to watch tv

Re: TV in Nursery?
Thought about it before DD arrived. Never did, and so glad we haven't yet. No real need.
DH wants to do it now - I still am a firm NO

Re: TV in Nursery?
Thanks everyone. Even if LO is in our room for the first few months, I figured I would still leave the room for middle of the night feedings - being that DH isn't on maternity leave, I figure it is not fair to wake him every few hours. Of course I could go to the living room, but figured I would want to be in the glider, which will be in the nursery.

Re: TV in Nursery?
I agree with your Dh but DH and i both are against even having a TV in our bedroom, people think we are crazy but living is the only place a TV is in our house.

Re: TV in Nursery?
We have a small flat screen and DVD player in her room. I wanted it there to play music and the baby einstein videos for when she is sleeping.

Re: TV in Nursery?
Definitely NOT doing a tv in the nursery....eventually they're not newborns and I am a firm believer that a child's bedroom needs to be a place that they know they sleep in. The tv will become an issue.

Re: TV in Nursery?
No, we don't even have a TV in our bedroom. I understand what you are saying, but also if I feed in the middle of the night, I want to keep the room quiet so and dark.
