Good Couch for Pets & Kids

We are looking into getting a sectional for our family room. We have a dog who sheds 24/7/365Chat Icon , no children yet, but see them in our future.

What kind of fabric is the most durable and easiest to clean? What is a good color?

ps: we are not into leather & our dog does not jump on the furniture (we do allow her up sometimes).

Re: Good Couch for Pets & Kids

We just got the AMAZING Pearce sectional from Pottery Barn in everyday suede.

It is perfect. We have 2 dogs that lay all over our couches (and run on them too). B/w the two of us, DD, and the 2 dogs not sure who likes it best. :)

The covers are removeable and washable for all the cushions (back and seat). I highly rec this sectional and fabric.

I would recommend ikea sofas

I don't have the sectional but I have the Ektorp sofa, it has fitted covers you can get that go in the washing machine. I have 2 of them. It's really a Pottery Barn knock-off. The quality is excellent - of the sofa and the covers. The "putting together" of the sofa consists only of putting the feet on the sofa and putting the cover on, nothing crazy.

I have 3 large dogs - 2 German Shepherds and a Rottweiler.

We have a cat, and our microsuede couch still looks new. WIth our old couch (fabric), his nails would catch and pull the threads. It looked horrible. Microsuede is very easy to clean, too.

Re: Good Couch for Pets & Kids

thank you everyone, we will have to look into all of these.

for those of you that have removable covers, have you taken them off to wash? do you use regular detegent? do you throw them in the dryer, or hang dry?

thank youChat Icon

We literally JUST got this for the basement since I wanted something that i wouldn't have a heart attack if we had to replace in a few years (pottery barn) and I wanted something with slipcovers that can be washed (and replaced if necessary).

It's so new that I can't comment on how it holds up, but for the price you really can't go wrong.

It was a little bit more assembly (they recently changed it to allow for less packaging) but it was put together in about an hour and that includes ironing the covers.

love this! thanks for posting! ours is going to need replacing too, and with the animals--we have a german shepherd too--and kids down the road i think ikea cheap is going to be our style too.
