Snow....

So I see people totally affected by snow...and was wondering if anyone on this board is totally affected by it or do you just go about your day as usual?

I'm totally affected by it b/c I work with kids so if the schools are closed (which they ALWAYS are up here) I have no work.

So I feel like a kid b/c I get snow days off.

Re: Snow....

I didn't have to go to work this morning, but I have to go in at 5, I work PT for WW so I work based on meeting times.

When it snows DH goes in early, so he had to go in at 5 this morning and who knows when he will come home, he works for the Town of Hempstead

I teach so I had the day off. For my DH, it is just a regular day. He does have the option to work from home, but he had a bunch of meetings today.

Re: Snow....

DH and I both worked from home. we were going to go in but there was like 4 ft of snow behind our cars on the driveway. as it was it took my husband with the snowblower, 3 hours to clear the driveway.

I'm only affected if the Metro North is affected.
So I did have to leave earlier b/c of the 1 train an hour Sunday schedule Chat Icon & it was packed, but I tried to go on with my normal day as much as possible.

I did howveer fully take advantage of my boss letting me leave leave 45 minutes early b/c of the dumb train schedule!

Re: Snow....

Not affected. My trains ran just fine, my blocks were plowed by the time I woke up, and I can just tromp over them. Everyone's at work today like nothing, same for yesterday.

Re: Snow....

i teach fitness classes at a gym, so if it snows really badly my gyms/studios may close. or i may sub it out because its hard to get to some of them for just an hour class. plus its a crap shoot if anyone will even show up.

If its a really bad storm I usually get a day off and use to catchup on somethings around the house...

Re: Snow....

I work from home 3 days a week, so if it's really snowy, I just work from home, and if it's a day I'm supposed to go into the office, I go in another day. So no, I don't really feel like it affects me much. Chat Icon I miss snow days!

Re: Snow....

Does not affect us, I work from hom then. And DH is home with his torn ACL waiting, no so patiently for his surgery this week, so no having to drive to Queens for him either.

Fortunately, we are blessed with great neighbors who shoveled for us.

Re: Snow....

It makes my life difficult.

I live alone and have a 6-car driveway to clear (thank GOD for the snow blower) so before I can even get out of the driveway I'm clearing it out.

Then it's my usual commute, which on a good day driving takes me an hour, so with inclement weather, I'm looking at a good hour and a half to two hour drive.

For the most part I go on with my day, but in an instance like getting a foot or two of snow, I'll usually work from home.

no such thing as a snow day for us, we HAVE to be there and be there on time. i work 60 miles from home and have to be there at 7am... the last big storm, when i left for work - it was still snowing, hard, nothing was plowed, and it was dark. it took me about 2.5 hours to get to work. we usually get held over at least 2-3 hours past our normal 8.5 hour shift, in bad storms... add that to a solid 2 hour commute home, bc the roads are always still a mess, and i have myself a lovely 15 hour day. pure misery.
