Any mom's have their gallbladder out? TMI warning
I know it's common after pregnancy so I figured I'd ask here.
I had mine out shortly after DD was born due to a bad gallstone attack. All went well with the surgery - had the laproscopic, was home the same day, recovery was pretty easy, barely noticeable scars, no more of that hiddeous pain of the attacks, life was good!
Shortly after though, (Here comes the TMI), I started noticing I was getting urgent needs to run to the bathroom and diarrhea after eating even the most innocent foods- not even just greasy heavy stuff. I find myself nervous on the train, nervous on long car trips- I feel like I always have to be near a bathroom because you never know when it's gonna strike! And then I can go for long stretches where I am fine- even after eating something awful like McDonald's. I have read on the internet that this is due to the bile that the gallbladder once stored now pouring directly into the intestines and having a laxative effect.
My question- did anyone else experience this? Does it get better on it's own after time? Have you seen a Dr about it and is there anything they can do to help?
It's not a fun feeling to be a slave to your stomach issues!!!

I had mine out about 5 months after dd was born.
I never had the same issue as you, but my Mom did.
Run, don't walk to a CVS or Walgreens and buy Align- Probiotics. You take 1 a day and you will be good to go in about a week. I promise!

Yes!!!! This is me as well. So bad since I had my gall bladder out. I also have been dealing with silent reflux for the past 2 years and it seems to be the culprit of my insomnia.
I've just started seeing an ENT because of the burning in my throat. Right now I am being treated with stronger acid reducers (only on them 3 days) I am hoping this will also help calm the stomach down and the trips where I run like a mad woman to the bathroom. I did ask if this is from the gall bladder removal but didn't really get an answer. The doc is going to wait the month and if I need another upper endoscopy we'll do one. (different doc on the first)

I did have after effects for about 2-3 months after I had mine out, but not since. As a matter of fact, I find myself having the opposite problem but I guess that is what happens when we mess with our bodies

It's been 2 months since mine was removed( it was taken out about 2 months after DS was born).
I have the same problem. Certain foods really kick my arse one week and the next nothing.
When I first had pizza after the surgery I spent most of the night in the bathroom. Never had that problem again with pizza. I do always have the same problem with anything fried. Donuts, Zeppos all make me sick.
I also noticed that after the surgery I have bad gas and if I have to go to the bathroom there is no holding it. Its go now or beware. .

Re: Any mom's have their gallbladder out? TMI warning
Hi
My DH had his gallbladder out 3 years ago. His dr told him it would get better (what you describe) but I have to be honest and tell you it really did not get too much better. What we have noticed is that if DH doesnt eat for a long time then eats, it happens. If he eats smaller meals throughout the day, he is much better.
We do understand. I see this happen to my DH and it's so annoying. He won't eat sometimes if having to be in the car for a long time or a train, etc. I am sorry to tell you the truth b/c it isn't what you would ideally like to hear. But no, it didn't really go away.

I appreciate your honesty! I have read that something called bile salts can help. I will see how it goes for the next few months and if I'm still having issues I might see a gastro and ask about that.

I had similar problems, but, just wondering do you have pain, too? I had what felt like my intestines "twisting" and then had to run to the bathroom. Turns out I had c-difficile - a common bacteria that occurs when you have stomach surgery. You should discuss this with your doctor. There is an anitbiotic for it and clears it right up.

I just had mine out 2 months ago. I get the same thing. My sister and I went shopping the other day for our DD's Christmas dresses and we stopped for lunch at panera. I had half grilled cheese and half soup and about an hour later I was getting bad stomach pains and had to book it home to get to a bathroom. Sucky.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! Same thing here! It has been nearly 2 years since I got it out and it it is still bad. My sisiter got hers out less than a year ago and she is having this problem too. TMI, but sometimes these ATTACKS get caught behind constipation and all hell breaks loose. I truly just want a normal week of bowel movements. They come out of nowhere and it sucks at home, at work, while out.
Diet hasn't helped. I am actually going back to the doctor to see if there is anything I can do. I hope you feel better soon!

Haven't had that kind of pain- just gas and bloating then the RUN to the bathroom. That sounds even worse though...glad you got it cleared up with meds!!

Oh yes- trust me, I'll take the runs over that pain any day! That was a pain like no other when I was having a gallstone attack. My labor was easier than that!!

Re: Any mom's have their gallbladder out? TMI warning
Ive ben having similar issues and I still have my gallbladder, but I did develop cholestasis which is when your liver and gallbladder do not work properly during pregnancy and the bile acids get in your blood stream causing you to become extremely itchy. They test for this through blood work. I had to have DS early. 6 weeks PP I had my blood tested again as per my OB and my levels were still a little elevated. Im wondering if this is just normal for me and if isnt really working properly causing me to have digestive issues? IDK ive always had some issues but now I feel like they are worse. My mom had cholestasis as well and maybe 10 yrs ago had to have her gallbladder removed. I have no idea if any of this is connected but it does make some sense to me.
I went out and bought the probiotics one of the posters metioned and I am going to try it. I hope it helps!
